Interesting video! Really interesting...
First of all, I wonder what kind of microphone you have used, since the sound track feels quite low pitched and dark at certain moments while it might not be like that in real life, but that is just me. The revving and hearing the turbos is really nice. That is all because of the catless downpipe. I don't really like the mix of so many burbles on the overrun and the high end rasp on the rev rising. It is a bit too much for my liking. It is like one is nice or the other is nice, not a combination both, but then again that could be the mic picking it up in a certain way. Under load it sounds pretty decent. Up shifts are interestingly not as violent as mine in the sound, maybe because of the catless downpipe. Who knows... The high end snerp at WOT is lovely in higher revs. Personally I think that fitting a catless downpipe just requires to remove those burbles. It has the ability to sound a bit like a natural aspirated engine without them and now with the catless downpipe it is not in tune anymore with the increased rev / speed snerp you get. It is a bit all over the place, but that is what the video makes me feel. Great video, nicely done. Personally I see no reason to go catless. It is already loud and it will only get more louder, ant that is not really what I need. It is cool now, and my system has as much character as that engine can give us. MR |

Nothing fancy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N0EA3NC/ On the video I posted the audio is raw, I did no edits whatsoever other than cutting the video into segments. The burbles are stock BMW DME tuning, once the car gets tuned that can be toned down if needed. I personally like the aggression they bring, and its not as excessive as some other cars I have heard in person. For me is has just enough but still its not for the faint hearted. Downpipes to me are a necessity, the M2 I owned was loud with the exhaust setup I had on it. And the Competition, in stock trim, sounded bland compared to how my daily 135i sounds. So the exhaust was on my radar since I ordered the car. Downpipes are the main power adder for my car, and although not tuned yet, when tuned the downpipes are the ones that will allow the nice power that I want. The Active Autowerke exhaust just by itself on stock downpipes sounds amazing. But for me, hearing the turbos spool is icing on the cake. Thanks for the feedback on the videos and pointers for the new one I loaded.

The Active Autowerke Signature Exhaust on stock downpipes will be more than enough for many people. Hell, just the midpipe will suffice for many. But I was looking for an all out exhaust with an aggressive tone that also can make some nice power.

You can't get away with it anymore in certain countries and fitting them in for instance Germany is a tax offence that can have you end up in jail. I kid you not... It is getting more mental here with police being trained specifically to find cars with "louder" exhausts. MR |

90% of people that go catless will tune, and many of the tunes out there allow you to control the burbles, you can tone it down when you tune.

I love this motor, but it sure sounds like shit. Exhausts just make the shit louder. I've loved the deep tones from supersprint, I wonder how it sounds. These things are sounding like burbely versions of the raspy sound of an e46 m3.

Sound is so subjective not everyone will like the same thing. Good thing is that the burbles can be shut off completely with a tune.

Not sure about TD noise limits in the USA but here in UK I doubt that would pass even a 105dB day.
Tone wise, it's sounds better/rortier/naughtier than stock but still too raspy for my old ears. However, each to their own and well done for nearly being able to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear !!!

What was your exhaust setup on your older M2? How loud is your M2C now compared to your old setup (I have a gen 1 M2 with sport cats + FI exhaust for reference)
