Winter Storage

It's getting closer to that time when the beast goes into hibernation. I know you're supposed to give it one last wash and wax, fill up the tank along with a gas stabilizer, oil change, cover the car, and suspend the car insurance.
I'm thinking about jacking up the car on jacks to prevent flat spots on the tires. Is that bad for the suspension?

Leaving the vehicle suspended like that will put additional stress on some of the suspension components and is not recommended. For example, control arm bushings are torqued while the vehicle is in its resting position on the ground. If you were to raise the vehicle and let the suspension extend, the control arms will rotate and place a torque force on the bushing and ball joints that is normally only there when the suspension is in motion while driving.

There are pillows and parking ramps that are designed specifically to alleviate flat spots by increasing the contact patch of the tire to the surface it is resting on, thereby dispersing the load on the tire. You can also slightly increase the tire pressure for winter storage to help the tire keep its shape.

I’ve never done this and after 4 months in the garage the tires sort themselves out in the first few miles of your next drive.

Last winter, I inflated my tires a bit more and moved my car occasionally forwards/backwards. That seemed to be good enough.

Overinflate the tires by about 5psi and it'll be fine for 4-5 months. Like what was said above, the flat spots that may occur from being in storage will disappear after one or two days of driving.

If it's in a heated space I'd be wary of mice or other rodents finding a home anywhere in the exhaust or the engine bay. Load that baby with dryer sheets and/or cotton balls with peppermint oil.

I wouldn't worry about modern tires like these developing flat spots at all.
I've stored cars for >6 months without any issues, on all kinds of tires like MPSS & Cup 2! Just put the proper additives in the tank and use a trickle charger to keep the battery healthy if you have a charger. Porsche makes a nice charger. Never stored a BMW so not sure about one for the M2C.

Suspend the car insurance, but maintain the comprehensive portion! These flatspot stoppers are kind of cool, they work too!

+1

I think "storage" really only applies to cars that are kept in the garage long term - 7 months+.

I think for 3-4 months, there really isn't a need for extensive "storage" protocols.

Quick question - by "overinflating" do you mean going beyond the MPSS' Max Pressure of 50psi?
