Wooo!

Seriously, you're about a 15 months too late on this thread. Or 5 years if you count all the way back to the '14 M3's.
Wow, if you're truing not to sound butt hurt it's not really working out that well.

What I was hoping for was someone rebuffing my argument with an example of a S55 sounding decent. And this is the answer I get instead? Defeat accepted?

No.

Complacency is not helping here. Demand from BMW that they do better. Ultimate driving machine should not sound like a fucking vacuum cleaner.

And if a $35k Mustang sounds better than $95k BMW there is a problem. Simply rolling over and saying this is OK is NOT OK .

Here is the fart can noise the S55 makes with the best exhasut out there:

Pathetic. Still all the pops and bangs but the tone is hollow as opposed to deep.

I love the power delivery and the potential of the S55 but come the fuck on! This sounds like a over wound dump truck
I don't care what you say, but being able to hear and enjoy your car next to a wall, or in tunnels, or just with the windows down is a big deal. I really hope someone comes up with a fix. This is the Achilles's heal of an otherwise great car.
You're the minority who thinks FI makes the best exhaust. Everyone has their own opinion of who makes the best. And for the S55, really? Most guys are running AA mids and/or Remus axelback as the most popular exhaust option. Very few are running FI. Yeah we get it, the N55 sounds deeper than the S55. Another thread to make yourself feel better than you have OG instead of the comp. Gratz.

I'm with the Captain & TheScout. Which oddly sounds like a 70s easy listening duo.

Which brings me to the point here. It's like music. Or movies. Or TV shows.

Some people just have shit taste in other people's minds who in turn have shit taste to them. But that's what makes the world go 'round. If we all liked exactly the same thing then this would make for something unhuman as opposed to inhuman.

What sounds good to one person may not sound good to another.

It's like some friends I have that one day decided that "all new music is shit". It often coincides with the hairdo that they decided to stick with for life.

I think OP has a certain type of hairdo. I think it may look business like at the front. Jokes OP. Jokes.

I like the sound of the S55 but I never accepted the premise the M2 sounds any better.

30 years ago, I remember when at a car show a obnoxious Corvette guy said my 930 didn’t sound like it had any balls. I believe he said it sounded like a VW. Then after the show he lined up the first stop light going out to the highway as this jacknut was revving his engine with strait pipes as much as he could. I took off so fast destroying mr. plastic-fantastic off the line he couldn’t see my whale tail by the highway entrance. My anemic VW sounding 930 always was music to my ears as it had its own personality and didn’t need to sound like a V8 with glass packs.

We must have different ears. Because to me this statement is similar to saying that a Civic Si doesn't sound better than a lawn mower. And to some people I guess it doesn't.

Have you listened to the first video in this thread? To my ears that's music.

Ready for more

I own the M2C, and while sound is subjective, I've driven a friends GT350, and it sounds wicked with the R exhaust. The M2C sounds pretty terrible in comparison. Though even the regular M2 sounds weak sauce to me with the stock exhaust. I think the regular M2 sounds better, but not by much.

At this level, distinctive is better than "good". N55 doesn't sound like anything special to anyone but the owner. To my ear, it sounds generic. I personally love how different the S54 and S55 sound from the regular I6 BMWs.

The only BMW motor that will truly make someone turn around and say, "Wow, that sounds incredible", is the S85. As someone who's owned some excellent-sounding V8 and V12 exotics, opting for an N55 car over an S55 car because of sound seems completely ridiculous.

Not sure what the point of this thread is lol. You're posting in the competition subform (which consists mostly of competition owners) to tell them the car sounds bad. Of course most people are going to defend their car, they obviously liked it enough to purchase.

I heard the FI exhaust in person on the M2C. It was LOUD. I actually liked it more than expected considering I am not a huge fan of the S55 exhaust note. But yeah, it's quite raspy and more "motorsport-esque" in comparison to the N55, IMO.

5.MONSTER... “What I was hoping for was someone rebuffing my argument with an example of a S55 sounding decent.”

To me, you rebuffed your own argument.

You posted the Akropovic video.

I listened to it.

It sounds damn good to me, far beyond decent...

Powerful and motorsports-like (as stated in earlier posts), and iconic, similar to the raspy E46 M3 engines, as they sound here in the States. Heard one today.

I’ve always enjoyed the more exotic sounds of the German sports cars (BMW’s iconic inline six and Porsche’s iconic flat six engines), compared to the domestic V-8 engines. They can sound great, just like the trucks. But they don’t sound exotic.

We get it, the S55 doesn’t even sound decent to you.

Thanks for letting us know.

The Voodoo definitely sounds more exotic than most H6 porsches and I6 bmws.

True.

Borrowed this link from another thread. But THIS is what the ultimate driving machine should sound like. Enjoy the acoustic barrage. This is my next car after the BMW when I return to the US.

So where are those good sounding clips on the M2C or CS for all of you who disagreed with my hypothesis?

Or is my argument falling on deaf ears... and perhaps this also doesn't sound any better to you

Why do you care? Sounds like you made up your mind and won't accept that other people might like different things.

Continuing the argument at this point is pointless. People like what they like. You aren't going to get a bunch of people who like chocolate ice cream, to switch to vanilla ice cream because you like it better.

Also, chocolate ice cream is empirically better. Fight me.

I agree with 5.Monster, the stock M2C exhaust sounds like a blender, but I quite like this exhaust + DP combo, at least as far as inline 6's go.

I wonder how good that motor sounds when it throws a rod? Are you hearing exhaust or piston slap? Kidding, but not really.

I have an OG M2 and I think it sounds good. I think the M2C sounds good too. I let my buddy, who owns a Saleen Mustang drive my M2 through the twisties. Never once did he complain about the sound, but rather wouldn't stop taking about how refined and hooked up the car was. He was giggling and smiling the whole time. Point is, I suspect most people here chose this car for what it is capable of. Sure, sound matters, but it isn't the end all be all of a car. Before the M2 I had an Audi RS5 with the 4.2L V8 revving to 8250RPM and I couldn't wait to get rid of that car. Sounded great, but didn't hold a candle to the M2 in any other category that matters to me.
