Hmm.

BMW engineers have however gone on record advising that they were attempting to create a unique exhaust note similar to the S54 for the M2..
I haven't read this before. Do you have a link to where this was said?

IMO, the N54 and S55 sounds more similar, due to both having twin turbo and true dual exhaust to the rear muffler (both engines have exhaust from cyl 1-3 and 4-6 basically separated until the rear muffler). Unlike the N55 which has a single turbo and single pipe exhaust, mixing exhaust from all 6 cylinders though the one turbo and one exhaust pipe.

I know, dude. I own one. And, my post had zero to do with the merit of OP's post. I just get a kick out of his enthusiasm.

I believe the M4 and M2 safety cars have the cats removed. That's why they sound so much louder/better than the stock M performance exhausts.

From the BMW Press Release Document:

Quote:
When it comes to the exhaust, the engineers have put their faith in tried-and-tested M Performance material. However, the system was stripped down completely for its outings in the motorcycle world championship. The reason: without silencer, catalytic converter and flap system, the BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car can still be heard over the roar of the prototype motorcycles on their installation lap.

M2 Safety > M4 Safety > M4

All three sound cheap though like some POS aftermarket ebay option.

I still prefer the video of the safety car driving around the track. Highlights the exhaust range better.

Also, lots of people are forgetting how modified this exhaust actually is. With that said, stock M2 exhaust sounds great, and the MPE also brings out a great sound for it.

I remember reading that too. I suppose the only thing similar between the two is the rasp. The tone is still going to be muffled by the turbocharged manifold.
