M2 N55 reliability?

Looking to pick up either an M240 or an OG M2 as a commuter/fun car.

How is the reliability for the M-fettled N55?

Will be using it about 3 days a week, with the odd weekend blast or track day.

What are the engine's maint.-related weak points, and is there anything specific to check when buying used? Considering examples under 100,000 km (roughly 60k miles).

Been driving mine for nearly 2 years and 7 HPDE weekends at instructor/advanced pace. Not a hiccup to report at 42k miles.

Super reliable engine/trans/car, but there are a few things you need to pay attention to.

I'd say first and foremost is to pick a virgin, non-tracked car, or as close to it as you can get, then just be smart about ownership, pay close attention, check everything out regularly.

- charge pipe
- diff leak
- oil housing leak
- valvetronic motor
- wastegate actuator

These are just things to keep an eye on, all cars don't develop all issues.

No major issues for me either. Been used as a daily, on track and spirited driving. Has 75,000 km (46,600 Miles)

I would keep and eye out for the rocker cover gasket, belt tensioner/belts & the plastic charge pipes.

Yeah charge pipe is point of failure. Cheap to replace it upgrade. Intercooler isn't a common point of failure but it's a weak point as far as performance.

Thanks all. Have found a suitable car and closed on it.

Good times.
