Notice S55 Engine is using a Japan belt alternator

I have a 2020 M2 competition and I noticed that the alternator has a label on it made in Japan- S55

I thought all of BMWs parts were made in Germany

BMW parts are made all over the world, especially Austria and Czech Republic. Is there an issue?

65% is claimed to be from Germany. Rest is from elsewhere. It’s on the window sticker.

Assembled in Germany doesn't mean made in Germany. All OEMs use suppliers for components that are sourced worldwide. I know because I've negotiated a few of these deals.

My brother in law does a lot work on Ferrari’s , ....when replacing water pump on one I forgot the model ...he was having a heck of a time sourcing one and it was $1600 from Ferrari . The exact same pump from GM was $199 ...exact god damn piece just with a Ferrari sticker on it !

So if your doing your own work in the future ...search the pieces manufacturer part number and chances are you will get it much cheaper then from Bmw !

If they were designed by the group that came up with the Milano cookes then I would not worry. If the Keebler Elves worked on them then I'd suggest you go aftermarket.

Pre 2000 I agree. $20000 of repairs on a 2006 Forester XT changed my opinion forever. The old ones were bullet proof.

In reading $20,000 not $200,000. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Lol

Felt like 2,000,000 at the time. (Or 2.000.000 in Europe)

(2 engine rebuilds, failed cold start emissions $3k, split radiator at 50,000km, hoses blowing regularly, 2 x $1400 xenon headlights and on and on and on - all immediately after warranty. Not their finest moment. Mid 2000s Subarus were so bad. Pre 2000... 160k and never a problem).
