Upgraded to take on common street competitors
I live in the Detroit area, land of a million muscle cars. My M2 is bone stock, but always draws attention from the guys in Mustangs, Challengers, and Camaros as M cars are relatively rare here. I had a guy in a 392 Charger pull up beside me on the freeway a few weeks back... it was 40 degrees and I had a cold engine, so I didn’t engage him on a quick pull (we were also headed into a construction zone and I’m not one to drive like an idiot.) But it got me thinking about what I’d need to do to this car to feel confident going up against the usual suspects around here. To me, those cars are:
-The V8 muscle cars I mentioned. Most are stock with maybe some exhaust mods. -Tuned WRXs and STIs. Very few people keep them stock. -Stock Focus RS or heavily modified Focus STs. -Tuned GTIs or Golf Rs. I daily drive my M2 for a sales job and put about 30k miles a year on it. For that reason, I’m trying to maintain as much stock driveabiliy as possible. My previous M235i was FBO and the downpipe was just too loud cruising at 3000 RPM on my long daily freeway commutes. I’m really not a stoplight drag racer at all and have no illusions about beating the AWD crowd there, but looking to be competitive on a 60-90mph roll. So, what do you think is the least I can get away with here? My thinking was something along the lines of intercooler, Dinan big turbo/Stage 4. Anyone think that still won’t be enough to hang? |

- charge-pipe
- down-pipe - intercooler - BM3 I'm honestly thinking that will get you respect, if not the win. You already know that the biggest issue is the stock turbo, so addressing that along with the fuel issue will change things dramatically. The thing is though, there is always someone faster, and doing just the standard bolt-on's will get you the respect, and maintain the stock driveability, so that's what I'd do if I were you. |

Added the Dinan P2 turbo, intercooler, exhaust and tune to my 2018 LCI. Just as daily drivable as when stock but with a lot more grunt. It's really only useable above 30 mph as below that it's traction limited.

Just curious, how much did it cost to have all of it installed?

My 2018 M2 has bm3, DP, charge pipe, Vrsf intercooler and it's as fast at a stock m4. I have no doubt that roll racing any new pony car like an SS Camaro, challenger or mustang GT My m2 would beat them. I've driven all those cars in their stock trim and my butt dyno tells me the m2 pulls way harder.

Maybe just find some twisty roads? Some of that lot will still leave you in their dust, but others, not so much.

If it's just away from the lights that's important: Buy a Nssan Leaf. To 30mph they are surprising*.
*Tesla Insane Mode is better though... Last edited by M Fifty; 05-19-2020 at 12:53 PM.. Reason: Spelling |

I think the problem is that it's so easy to modify cars these days, it doesn't take much to get an edge. I also think the M2 responds well to mods, being turbo, but the M2C, wow, some serious hp is available with that car so easy.
