Has anyone removed the plastic fender extensions?

Don’t know what else to call them. About the stupidest regulatory additions I’ve seen. Except for the OPF for you poor Europeans.

I was hoping we wouldn't get those. I will probably remove them if they are separate.

Several M2 CS owners removed the fender extensions.

You might have noticed the last few weeks that existing models within the BMW model lineup are being outfitted with plastic strips at the top of the wheel arch. These new wheel arch stripes were introduced because of homologation guidelines.
About 70 countries across the world are introducing new regulations when it comes to noise and road / wheel noise. The regulations state that the tires have to be “within” the arches and therefore the extenders were installed. There is no general guideline across all these countries, but many different ones. The extenders are there to make sure all new guidelines are covered."

Difference: the M2 CS features add-on fender extensions on both sides (2 x 8.5mm). So yeah, technically speaking the M2 CS is 'wider' if you don't remove the fender extensions.

Thanks! Yeah, I know why they have them, but the question is how simple is it to remove them. I was a bit concerned that they are part of the fender liners. Hopefully it's a simple removal of the pop rivets and they're off.

And interesting to see the spec sheet. A 440 hp car with a 13.7 gal gas tank has got to be the stupidest f'ing thing I've ever seen. I am constantly driving to the station and I'm sure the CS will be worse with 10% more HP. This is ridiculous weight saving crap. The low fuel like comes on after you use about 10 gal...

I've read that it's a simple removal. I may ask dealer to do it before delivery. Can't remember where I read this, think somewhere in M2C threads since 2021 M2Cs get these as well I think.

Someone has done it. It may have been the Mexico delivery BSM car. Check the deliveries thread. It was not a simple process if I recall and may be better suited for the dealership in case something gets damaged.

New wheel arch stripes/fenders are gone! I was hesitant to remove them at first but thanks to my good friend Dr. Devilcars' advice I took the plunge

They are not just a simple strip but rather a bulky piece of plastic. Also, once removed you'll find a vinyl strip adhered to the car. We've managed to remove everything without any issues.

Given what I found, it is a must that you execute this modification with your dealer. Should they find any markings on the car's body, it will be for them to correct.

The screws go into conventional screw holes that you can obstruct by fitting the screws once the arch plastic pieces have been removed.

The parts can be removed almost completely within 20 minutes
See for example here.

But beware of the old Volvo whistle:

Have the extensions removed immediately after delivery. No whistle at all here at any speed.

My detailer removed them when I got my PPF fitted. I have retained them together with the fixings should they ever need to go back on the car.
He said they weren't too difficult to remove. But he did remark that there was some pretty poorly applied PPF underneath them!

Keeping mine. I like how they look with the blue. Also the car will remain totally original.

You can also easily put them back at any time if necessary.
