Dedicated Track tires
Looking for some advice from M2 drivers who track their M2's. Just bought a set of 18" 9.5" et 28 wheels for the track. Looking to put some strictly track rubber on them. My car is all stock except brakes so I will be limited to 255/35 tires. It is also a square set-up.

Nitto NT01. Fantastic grip, long life, no heat cycling issues and cheap. It's the go-to tire for most of the instructors in the NE BMW clubs.

With the right offset it should work but if you're tracking then you will need camber anyway. I run 265/35/18 RE71Rs on Apex FL-05s and camber plates. I think they did fit without camber but I had camber plates installed before taking them to the track. Without some kind of camber adjustment any track tires are not going to last, the shoulders will get destroyed very quickly.
And 265/35/18 on 9.5" rims will fit with 1 in the trunk and 3 on the backseat (may even fit 4 on the backseat). You won't get 2 in the trunk and I don't think folding the seats helps either really. |

There are a couple of posts in wheel section of people putting 3 in back seat and 1 in trunk. I think you need to bring drivers seat forward a bit.

Four 275/18 tires will fit on the back seats if you put them like a roll of life savers. Can possibly even fit wider tires.

If your looking for max sizing in a 9.5 I would go with an NT01 265/40r18 squared or 275/35r18 RS4 or RE-71 in similar sizing. That's a 26.3/26.4" diameter and equal to the 265/35r19 front tires I ran. That was as far as I could go diameter wise in the front. I like a larger sidewall and I think they will look even better in an 18. That's a very similar size to a Pirelli or Michelin Cup car slick sidewall wise.
Going with a 265/35r18 means you will loose almost an inch of sidewall. |

I had a similar sidewall height out back and I felt like it had more grip. To the point I had to lower pressure to utilize the whole tread width. I think a 265/40 square would be perfect, maybe the only draw back would be less transient response from a larger sidewall but more grip might make up for that deflection? I just like the beefy look. |

I did a lot of research recently for a track setup (ZM2 and Twt, I read a lot of your posts along with a few others). Went with a staggered 18" setup and RE-71Rs. In the wet, they're not nearly as good as the Pilot 4S I use daily and have tracked, but in the dry they're a huge step up. More grip than I expected for a trackable street tire. However, the outside shoulder of the fronts have worn really quick, so I'm installing camber plates before the next track day. If you're not going for slicks and want to drive your track tires to the track, the RE-71R is an optimal choice.

Agreed on 71R longevity. You can trash a set of them fast if you’re not nice to them. Here’s some recent performance data vs a couple tires: https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tests/t...b=ResultCharts
