For those of you who has 2NH brakes (also known as steel brake), how long does it last? For both pad and rotor. I am curious to see if the $700 ultimate care + package is worth considering or not. I know rotors are not covered anyway and the wear is depends on the driving style, just want to get some ideas. I'm DD my m2cs with most highways and a bit traffic jams (10 mins one way). It currently has 2500miles on it, and about to reach its 1st year age. My driving style is more like med aggressive in sport+&D2&sport once it warms up.

Edit: Let me make myself clear. I bought my cs on October 2021 with 1900+ miles on it. So I did put it in a good use.

At 2.5k/year of road driving, they'll probably corrode before they wear out...

Sorry I didn't make myself clear enough. I bought my cs on October with 1900+ miles on it. So I did put it in a good use.

I think you'll find few that can answer this question. 2NH is the caliper, not the rotor, and if I'm not mistaken, the pad material is different from the standard M2C (more aggressive).

If you're not tracking the car, just driving it aggressively here and there, you might consider the CarboTech 1521's (1648 & 1155), they will have much less dust (most brake dust is the rotor, not the pad), and greatly increase the life of the rotor.

Thanks for the input. The rotor is not covered by the ultimate care + anyway, so for sure I can put something better like the one you listed, even though the dust really doesn't bother me at all. My point is really regarding the pads, one set of new pads with its labor probably worth the $700 price, just curious if I need a new set of pads in next two years or not. And based on your experience, does OEM rotor last long enough for two set of pads? In other words, do I need to change the rotor every time when I change the pads?

No. Unless you're someone who regularly rides the brake on the freeway.

$700? Once the wheel is off it's a 5 minute job. So: how much do the pads cost?

As I said, I think the pad material for the CS is different than that of the C, so I'm not sure there is data yet on wear (street or track). But in general, no, you **should** get at least 2 sets of pads per rotor.

But to be honest, it's such an easy job that I'd just buy the pads from FCP Euro (free replacements) and swap them yourself, it's not a hard job at all. If you don't want to do that then you might get a local mechanic to do it instead of paying dealer prices.

According to https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/12/23/a...-m2-cs-brakes/, "US market: M2 Competition and M2 CS feature the same brakes, except for the caliper color: silver vs. red", and am pretty sure tons of M2C owners has changed their pads or even pads with rotors already. But anyway, thanks for the info. So I think the ultimate care+ maybe not worth the price.

It is the price upgrades your 3yr/36000 miles to ultimate care +, the crazy expensive ones are ultimate care + extensions.

I didn't find this package worth it to be honest. You can find plenty of shops to change your brakes out, or you can do it yourself for pretty cheap. If you track your car it's even less worth it because you're already changing brakes out very regularly.

Like how essentially for 100% of the mechanical parts (excepting the struts/shocks), the parts are identical to the M2C. The pads are common (i.e. front pad P/N 34112284869) and are also used on the F10 M5 and F12 M6. They're $306 for the front set from getbmwparts.

I’m an aggressive down shifter, but at the current rate, it seems like the brakes will last to 80-100k range. Pads look practically new, but in fairness, I haven’t measured the rotors.

The red CS brakes are identical to the Comp including the pad material. Oops, someone already caught this, sorry.

I actually don't think the crazy dust from these pads is mostly the rotor. The dust is brown, even when there is no surface rust on the rotor. I've had aggressive pads before and the dust was dark grey. I'm sure there is some iron in there because there has to be, but I would bet it is mostly pad.

I don't know enough about it to fully agree or disagree, I was just making a general statement. Since the BMW rotors only allow 1.4mm of wear, it makes sense that they would choose a sacrificial pad. But I'm going to basically agree with you on this one because of the color of the dust.

I still feel like the rotor will last 3 times as long with CarboTech pads.

Same here. My car told me front pads have 60k miles left and rear have 80k. So I am sure I don't new new pads in two years based on my situation. Thank you for the info.
