If so, I reckon thrust sheets should fix it but I would like to be sure before throwing more money at the problem.

Many thanks !
Although we have not experienced that issue with past installations the spring against the perch could cause noise issues. Swift thrust sheets should take care of the issues.

Clicking is typically a strut mount bearing or sway bar endlink. We have even seen low mileage strut mounts fail because of the use of the plastic bearing races. The endlinks can also be at their maximum articulation with a lowered vehicle.
Superb thank you so much for your reply, I appreciate it. I will be sure to have everything checked again.

I just ordered two sets from HP Autosport for a very reasonable shipping fee to Switzerland. I give back the love I get

Unfortunatly I have the same knocking noise coming from the front immediatly after the installation on low speed. After double check and 2.5k km "brake-in" period i still have the knocking noise. I have to uninstall the front shocks and send to the distributor, who will take care of the shocks.

Are you using camber plates?

I have the same issue with my KW v3. Haven't resolved it yet. Just posting so people know it's not related to Ohlins. I have the Dinan front and rear swaybars too. I read a post somewhere saying it might be related to me not replacing the stiffening plate bolts, so I'm gonna try that before doing the thrust sheets.

I also believe that the noise issue I have is not related to the Ohlins. I am hearing a creaking sound when turning the wheel while stationary, and only when the wheel is turned all the way left or right. I don't think the springs or the dampers are doing anything at all in this situation. It certainly is frustrating though. I am done modding suspension in the future for sure

I rather think that the sound is more clicking sound on low speed than knocking sound. I do not use camber plates.

Clicking may be a valving noise but Ohlins typically don't have that noise. Only an inspection can tell you what is making noise.

Hi, during the inspection you will not find anything, they sent me a couple of new shock absorbers and they make exactly the same sound as the old ones

Fwiw, not sure if this will help anyone -

I have the Ohlins R&T and never had any knocking noises.

Got new tires the other day, which being slightly taller than used ones will have affected alignment, and noticed creaking when turning the wheel coming out of a parking lot, slow.

Yesterday, did my annual alignment and the alignment was just slightly off to what we set it to 1 year and roughly 16k miles ago.

After the alignment, the creaking when turning wheel was gone.

So, I'm wondering if the knocking and creaking can be solved with an alignment.

My alignment is for spirited driving, not factory spec, but also not particularly aggressive.

Basically -2.2 degrees camber on front, -2 degrees camber on rear, 0 toe front, and 1/32 toe rear.

I'm at a loss as well, been chasing this for over a month now.

Wife has a 2018 M2.

Setup:
Vorshlag Camber Plates
Ohlins R&T with the plastic spring seat washer on the bottom and rubber spring washer at the top (all included parts)

Low speed the driver side seems to be clunking.

I've already tried a few steps:

-Remove endlinks, still had noise.
-Retorqued everything including arms and set load on arms
-Reassemble everything by disassembling.
-Swap sides (ohlins pass <==> driver but same camber plate but no endlinks)

All have been failures to remove the knocking on the driver side.

One note: full stiff setting on the Ohlins, altered the noise pitch/loudness but it was still present.

I think tomorrow I'll try using the stock shock to see if that eliminates the noise.

I'm stumped!

Why not rule out the camber plates by using the oem top hat for that side only.

Stuff the alignment and stack height difference for now and drive with oem hat to see if the issue disappears. If it doesn't then put the full oem setup in that corner since you believe it is isolated to one corner.

If the shocks only have brake line attachments then you can swap the left and right shocks and just cable tie the brake lines to the body of the shock and see if the noise follows. I haven't checked my M2 setup so not sure if this is possible.

I'm assuming you can do the hands on yourself so this may help to rule it out.

Anyway good luck!!

I think I meant to write stock top hats!

The brake lines bracket is separate so that can be done. I already swapped sides but I did have to swap the camber kit L/R onto the swapped dampener.

Plan is
1. swap stock front assemblies back in since they are still in one piece.
2. If the noise disappears, I will remove the stock top hat, and swap it to the Ohlins.

I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

Does anyone think it might be steering related and these SPL tie rod ends will fix it? Their description says they will eliminate binding on lowered cars, which made me wonder. I'm willing to give them a try come August/September, which is the next time my car will be in the shop.

Anthony1s since you have adjustable shocks why not raise the height and see if the noise goes away as a test first?

Because that takes more time. Between raising the suspension and then alignment, then lowering it and another alignment. Easier to throw money at the problem with guesstimates about what might fix it than to diagnose like that.

I found my issue.

One of the Vorshlag camber plates is causing the noise. Since my driver side was the known side that was clunking, I swapped the stock top hat onto the Ohlins. No more noise. I swapped both stock hats back on and will be contacting Vorshlag support.

Thanks for the update. Would be great to know what the actual root cause is if u ever find out.

Agreed. Visually, it is hard to see any real issue with the camber plate which is why I was chasing my tail for the past 2 months trying to figure where the issue was.

This is a wild hypothesis. Now a days the spherical bearings are pretty tight and have minimal play and if they did have play you get a slight rattle/knock noise not necessarily a knocking noise which I have seen in the past.

It would be interesting to know when you torque down the top hat is if it is really seating against the piston properly ie vertical play. You would only know if you torque down the hat without the spring and see if there is any play there. I have seen this back in the day when either there is not enough thread on the piston or the camber plate didn't have the correct thickness.

If there was play in the 2 plates I reckon you would pick this up with a physical inspection.
