Amazing ingenuity! Following this with great interest!

Another M4 owner here who picked up the iPhone XS Max today said an out loud WTF after realising it was a fraction too long, will drop you a PM

Cheers,

The response I have gotten for this part/mod has been overwhelming!

The demand has been higher than I ever thought and I'm pretty much running my printer all day to get these parts sent out to people. Still was happy to help those that showed interest, but from now on I will not be printing this part for people. Instead, if you are interested in this part you can buy it from my Shapeways store (created one just for this part ). Here is the link: https://www.shapeways.com/product/XY...ionId=70892401.

Thanks a million,
Steve

Can't get the link to work. Any chance you can share the STL or whatever files for self printing?

Thanks a ton!

No clue but I want to laugh at that message.
Lol 404 means not found not no accesss, they ought to use 403 or 401.

Also lol at printing JSON and sending it in an html payload

Update: Sorry it has been a while. The model has been taken down and currently working with the Shapeways team to get it back. For those that have access to a printer, I have the model available again here: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/8sVjIevITWC

If you do not have access to a printer, you can upload the file to https://www.3dhubs.com/3dprint to have it printed and shipped to you.

I use PLA at home. I have no experience with the other materials.

It’s 5 watt Qi charging. Pretty much what you can expect from most chargers unless they support 7.5W for Apple or Samsung’s 10W extensions.

The location of the charger is inconvenient, too.

Now... how does one go about removing the armrest thing-a-ma-jig to then take out bottom bracket and replace with 3D printed one?
hi cptobvious. I got your message and am happy to share how I removed the charger cradle and disassembled it to remove the bottom bracket. All you really need is a pry tool and a T6 screwdriver.

1) Use the pry tool to lift the charging cradle from the front. Once the front is lifted, you can simple lift the entire cradle out of the armrest.
2) There are four clips (2 on each side) holding the bottom to the charger. I just used a flat head screwdriver to pop them out and then remove the charger.
3) Now the trickiest part, disassembling the charger. For this, I stuck a blade (pry tool was a bit thick) in the open space where the bracket moves and pushed down to separate the top and bottom halves.
4) Now you have access to the two t6 screws that hold the bottom bracket in place.

Below are pictures I just took of the step by step process. Let me know if I can be of more help.

BTW, with this mod i can fit my massive Note 9 on here.
Thanks for the great work Steve. Once fitted the extended bracket, does it still trigger charging while you fit it with a smaller(normal size phone eg iphone x?)

The biggest problem that I have is that the phone barely charges and eventually goes into protection mode from overheat. Anyone else having this problem?

It should. as long as the bracket is pulled back from it's resting position it will start charging. Doesn't have to be fully extended.
