Yes on a LCI but i think you need the adaptive LED's

No on a Pre-LCI

You do get angel eyes with both LED headlights. I'm just saying the adaptive LED's have different "cooler looking" angel eyes than the non adaptive led cars so i was joking that people here buy them for that reason.

Gray just means it has 0 likes/points. You can press a gray appreciate button. It will turn blue afterwords.

No, you do get some amount of turning of headlights (with the steering) without coding VLD back on. I think it might be limited to dipped beam only, and it doesn't turn much, but it does turn for sure.

I tried this for quite a while, and even made a thread about it with my experiences - here. In summary, no, I was not able to get this to work with the LCI with Adaptive LED for the same reasons as others couldn't get it working with pre-LCI cars - there doesn't seem to be the shutter required to make the tunnel.

The high beams stay on as expected, and they do move around cars, but there isn't a dark area in the center, so you'll end up dazzling oncoming drivers and your high beams will shine into cars in front as well.

Does anyone know how much of this is in Canada? We don't have the same spec as US

The best way to find out is to look at your build sheet, or use a VIN decoder. If you have 8S4 on your build, then you don't have the VLD (which this thread is about).

If you have 5AP on your build, then you don't have the Glare Free High Beam, which is not what this thread was about, but is very cool. As I said, I've not been able to get GFHB / NGHB to work on my LCI US M2, and I've heard that it's not possible on the Pre-LCI cars either.

I'm not engineer/coder like yourself so what would be the simplest way of coding this. I already have bimmercode and hesitant to go about coding with e-sys.

For a second I thought you were up in mount hamilton but it seem you are south SF somewhere.
I'm not a coder, but I suppose I am an engineer.

As I've said in the past, I had a terrible experience with BimmerCode, and now that I understand more about how it works, would not use it myself, and would also not recommend it to others. I'm not the only person that ended up needing to get dealer help to get their car going again after using BimmerCode.

I'd actually say that if you're not an engineer / coder, BimmerCode is even more dangerous to use, because if things go wrong, you'll really be in trouble, whereas with E-Sys, the community would help you out, and you'd have the tools to fix it.

With BimmerCode, you don't have any tools to fix issues, and you're reliant on the lone developer to try and help you, which in many cases, he can't - his advice to me by email was to head to the dealer because there was nothing he could do, even though he acknowledged that using BimmerCode caused the issue.

Thanks. looks like my car has 8s4, so if i code the VLD on it will work, but the anti dazzle won't. I also have 5AP, which based on this thread it says that even if i code it on, it won't work properly because I dont have the hardware?

My MY17 has

S563A Light package
S5ACA High-beam assistant
S5APA Decode, anti-glare FLA high-beam assist
S8S4A Decoding variable light distribution

so I assume it's possible to get VLD to work, or work better than it does now.

You must be Canadian. Same as me. Looks like we can get VLD using bimmercode. I intend to do that

I'd have thought so, yes.

Thanks for the vid, Nezil, very cool.

I'm a bit confused though... I have an '18 LCI w/ Exec pkg, and my build sheet lists 5AC, 5AP AND 8S4. The way I'm reading some of these posts makes me think by having 8S4 means VLD won't work.

But by virtue of having an LCI '18 w/ exec, I can, right?
I can still simply code on VLD and have my lights work like yours are, correct?

Cheers and sorry for the confusing post.

You're correct on both points. Having 8S4 means that VLD is disabled for you right now, because of DOT regulations apparently.

You can simply code VLD back on again, by changing the coding options I gave earlier; that's all I did, and that's what you see in the video.

If you have adaptive headlights (xenon or LED) you can code VLD back in

Hi Nezil, I have both 8S4 and 5AP on my build. Does that mean I can't use coding for VLD?

No, the opposite, it means you can use coding to enable it.

The easiest way is to park near to a wall at night, and set your headlights to Auto. VLD only works in Auto, not when you manually switch to 'On', and not when you're in reverse either.

So, switch between 1st and Reverse, or Auto and On, and you'll see a big difference. Then, when in Auto, move the steering left and right just a little, and you'll see the headlights pivot way more than they did before you enabled VLD.

Then... go for a drive... it should be pretty obvious!
