Newest Max Performance Summer Tires from Michelin and Continental Spring 2017

For spring 2017, Michelin and Continental are rolling out their new leaders for the Max Performance Summer Tire category. This is the category most performance enthusiasts would be interested in for their daily drivers. These will be some of the best summer performance tires for wet traction, dry traction, ride quality and tread life.

Michelin and Continental have been leaders in this category with their previous models (Michelin PSS and Conti DW) and these new tires should prove to be leaders once again.

Please click on these to view each tire. You will then need to enter your tire size to see pricing for that size:

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

Continental ExtremeContact Sport

Tire Rack will be testing these tires by early summer and I will make sure to post the results.

Please email me directly if I can help in any way. Keith@tirerack.com

It comes in a lot of different 40-series sidewall sizes. Do you know which exact sizes you are looking for?

I'm hoping to eventually fit 265/40-19 and 285/40-19 front/rear

Currently, Michelin has not listed those sizes for 2017 production. I would expect that eventually when the PSS is completely phased out, the PS4S will become available in those size, but it is too early to tell right now. Sorry about that.

Hey Keith - is there a special "star" BMW-spec PS4S like there was with the PSS?

Surely the tyre size for the M2 is 35 not 40?

My contys have been, well, ok. but only ok.

Ive found that driving normally and going for a blast here and there seems to highlight how fragile the tyre and wheels are.

Ive not kerbed any wheels, just some stones have flicked up now and again which have then required a wheel refurb (one stone both nearside wheels). Then on the same journey a relatively small lip in a main round dinged the drivers side front! so 3 refurbs in one journey!

Then a nail in the nearside rear.

so 3 refurbs, then a back tyre. ££££

drive another 100 miles or so, another puncture in new rear tyre (fragile)

Didn't hit anything, just some normal bumps on the abysmal south west b roads. shallow potholes that are barely potholes but no major scrapes, bumps that would merit a puncture.

Of course no spare or space saver (I need to source a space saver kit please someone)

Getting the rear replaced I think am told (and have seen on video) 2 identical bulges on the two fronts!

So basically thats 2 fronts and two backs in 300 miles. Then to top it all it looks like the other rear will need replacing soon.

Anyone having this misery? 5,800 miles, yes I love the car - but why drive it if i will always get a puncture and be stranded?

I don't drive recklessly either.

anyone else sharing similar pains?

I have about 6K miles on my PSS and no punctures or bulges. I did curb a stock wheel, but it was my own fault for not seeing how far out a curb was.

My question is - are the OEM Pilot Super Sports for the M2 Comp a special BMW spec vs. the standard MPSS? If so, will BMW come out w/ a BMW OEM spec for the Pilot Sport 4s?

There is a MPS4S BMW star tire but it for the G80 M3/4.
