I had doctor friend in my PCA club 20 years ago that put his new 911TT into a wall on his first track event. I think his car had less than 800 miles on it. It was a simple, car got sideways from lifting off the throttle in a curve and the rear end swung around. Once you feel a 911 rear end come around its usually too late.

That's likely the reason the kumquat behind the wheel was doing a burnout in the first place. It's why police and staff don't like spectators gathering outside of C&C (or other car meets) because they antagonize this.

Not an expert but at the speeds he was moving at I think if he had just hit the brakes he would have avoided hitting anything. Perhaps the smoke obscured what was happening. Also it didn't appear he counter steered at all.

Maybe it's just me but if no one got hurt except the car, I'd feel bad for the guy. The guys filming clearly gained a lot of joy out of someone else's misfortune, petty and annoying vibes Last edited by Dav3; 12-03-2019 at 07:43 PM.. |

God so much driver fail.
Ways he could've prevented this: 1. Any amount of countersteer. He didn't appear to throw any lock at the car whatsoever. Even clumsy/late countersteering would've probably prevented this at such low speeds. 2. Panic braking. Usually a bad idea when you're going sideways, but again....such low speeds, the car would've recovered. 3. MDM mode. Admittedly, i'm not 100 percent sure on this one, but i've spun up the rear tires enough to bounce off the limiter with MDM on a couple of times, it lets you get A LOT of wheelspin, but then kicks in the stability control when you lift. He lifted with plenty of time left, I bet MDM would've saved him. 4. Just left the TCS on and not done a burnout. You know. Drive like a normal person and save the fun stuff for when there's nobody around and you're in a safe spot. I feel bad for him, but man. Make better decisions. I'd encourage anyone who's ever had the urge to fuck around like this to take their car to an empty parking lot and practice their donuts for at least a little while. Preferably when its raining so you don't have to buy new tires. Establish some counter-steering muscle memory, it'll never leave you and will likely save your ass at some point in your life. |

I was thinking this too. While, I can't say I too wouldn't have been very interested in checking out the damage, and may very well have been guilty of sending a snap of it - I can't imagine how that driver felt after realizing 1) what he just did, and 2) the crowd swarming he and the destroyed car.

My wife learned to drive a stick and do donuts at 13 when her dad would take her to the library parking lot on Sunday evenings in a hilariously modded Karmann Ghia. Took her mom a long time to catch on that the library is closed Sunday evenings ![]() |
