Anyone remove the metal/rubber from the dead-pedal?

Recently installed my Sullivan Racing pedals and I'm needing to add the dead pedal as well. Ideally it'd lay flat, but to make that happen I either need to shave the rubber down, or remove the metal, then the rubber, then replace the metal? Anyone done this?

I think I answered this on fb already but yeah I just removed the plastic and bolted the dead pedal straight in. Much cleaner install than not. Been a few years and still looks perfect

Thanks!

I think I've decided to just leave the main part in, but remove/replace the bright finisher with 1/8" abs plastic (to make it level since the rubber can't be removed), then another layer of abs plastic, then the dead pedal over that. This will allow me to undo the entire thing if I ever change my mind about it, having caused no damage to the original pedal.

yeah if you ever want to get back then this is the way, at least without having to buy another dead pedal assembly because afaik there is no easy way to remove it without breaking it.
