2017 M2 f87 seat occupancy sensor issue

Hello everybody,

I’ve been having a issue where several warning lights pop up. Air bag, seatbelt warning, SOS, and lighting malfunction. The iDrive system shuts off and HVAC turns off. Nothing else is affected that I can tell except turn signal is more rapid that normal.

It only happens occasionally and only with a passenger seated.

I did find if you raise you butt up off the seat for 10-15 seconds, everything clears out and all is normal.

Triggers appear to be from a rough road or heavy acceleration but not always.

I think the occupancy sensor mat in the seat may have a loose connection?
All plugs are secure and tight under the seat. No recalls or TSB’s that I can find on this issue.

Have read that older platforms up to e90’s have similar issues that can be resolved with a couple resistors to mimic and trick the ecu.

Has anyone dealt with this?

Thank in advance.

need to connect ISTA and check faults, sounds like a big problem if iDrive and HVCAN shuts off

Thanks kubax86, took me a bit to get it up and running…I ran ISTA and see the faults. Is there a source recommended to help me decipher what I’m looking at?
Thank you,
Jon
