Ceramic...hmmm

I know there is no proof but I really question things sometimes.
I have driven the same roads for over 20 years to get to work and around town. I currently own 2 purchased new vehicles, one with 75000 k's on it now and my M2, 8 months old with 3000k's. The bonnet and front bar is stone chipped worse than I'd say the last 5 cars I have had...and all either down to bare metal on the bonnet or black plastic on the bar. I have $2500 ceramic coat for the first time on a vehicle. All coincidence probably but gees something is uneven there.

Ceramic does little to protect from stone chips, that's what PPF is for.

EDIT: It's possible that the M2 gets more chips due to its design, thin paint, or other factors, vs other cars you've had.

Ive got a small handful of chips on the hood over the course of almost 4 years with no PPF. I keep a box of Dr Colorchip around to fix them as they come up. But I also track my car quite a bit so it's not really surprising to me.

How TF did you spend that much on a coating????

As stated a ceramic coating does 0 for rock chip protection.

The paint on these cars is super thin and super soft, glad I got PPF.

Agree paint is thin but BMW paint is generally considered a hard paint.

I dunno what to call it but it chips super easy, at least twice as fast as my Focus RS.

I think newer BMW paint is really brittle. My mid 90s Avus Blue has lots of little stone chips after 180k kms and track work. My 2009 E82 before I traded at 33k kms had 5mm wide chunks of paint chipping from daily work.

Every car since has had front end ppf + ceramic coating the whole car for ease of washing. OP, I'd ppf at least the front end if you plan on keeping the car long term, otherwise not worth the investment for the next owner.
