Because 285-35 or 295-35 would be way too big, that's why!! That's why I said unless you go down to 30 sidewall to compensate for the width, if not, it will look ridiculous like a 4x4, but then again, you particularly might like it.

I hadn't thought about most of the points people brought up about wider tire size... A full pound heavier is ridiculous Thanks for the info! |

I foresee a lot of Cup2 tires being sold. 🤔

And I have dedicated track tires for the track. Fit 4 wheels and tires in the back seat, everyone is happy. BTW there are much better track tires than the Cup2’s. Cups are expensive and wear quickly, you are much better served by something like an RE71R. Bottom line - run, don’t walk away from the Cup2 option.

The Cup2 make terrible street tires. You can't get them hot enough to take advantage of the extra grip. For 99% of street driving, the MP4S will give better grip.

Good video on M4cs and Pilot Sports.
I agree with it. The car was tuned for these tyres. Having said I'm lucky with the climate side of things. |

My car was delivered in october and in december I decided not to put my winters on as I was not driving a lot. During one of the rides close at home I completely lost traction at the front axle (understeer) at 20kmh in a 90degr turn and damaged two rims (luckily repairable). It was damp. Good surface. Clean driving. The strange thing is that on the autobahn at 180kmh (or faster) in Germany you will easily manage to bring heat in your tyres even when you're balls are freezing off, 30degrees Celcius was easily reached at minus 5degrees Celcius outside temp. That piece of paper is a nice CYA, I would hang it at the toilet to wipe your arse with. They did the same with the M Performance exhaust for the M2,3 and 4. Since then none sold anymore and believe me, a lot of them exhausts were sold to lazy M buyers like me, receiving your car at the dealer with the goodies mounted |

On the street, PS4S performs better 99% of the time...
Get the Cup 2 only if one tracks the car often and willing to sacrifice street performance |

If you only do 20% track then why bother with it as the tyre compounds take a long time to get close to operating temperature on the street. You will be driving with tyres slipping fairly often. |

Tyre choice in for the CS HK was obvious for me : it may not have rained for a month, but kick it in the guts in 2nd coming around a bend and there's usually a happy rivulet streaming across the apex, giggling at your rear grip. HK doesn't have a race track either.
On a side note, we switched from SS to 4S on our 1M and found the grip amazing, but also a bit more tricky to get the rear slippery on MDM in the dry. Now it needs everything unlocked, and guards sent home for any diagonal work - and except on a one way road, at the crack of dawn I won't be that nuts. So for us on the CS there won't be any Cups, and I assumed the CS would therefore be shod in SSs - but apparently HK gets M4S. Totally weird after reading though BP about SS being part of the set menu. |

Wow, I'm surprised by the comments here.
I've had PSS on my F80 and on my Supra (both cars came with it stock). I HATE the PSS, they're soft, their level of dry grip isn't very good, they feel a bit clumsy on turn in, prone to punctures, etc. The PS4S is superior to the PSS (back to back on my F80 it was night and day). I'm not sure why manufacturers are still using the PSS over the PS4S today, perhaps it's to cut costs, but the PSS is an ANCIENT tire that should be discontinued. Don't get me wrong, the PSS was a great tire in 2012, but tires have evolved immensely since then. That being said, I've now owned three cars that came with the Cup 2 standard. The Cup 2 does wear out quite a quickly, has poor wet traction, but they have amazing grip in the dry and turn in is fantastic. Based on personal experience on and off the track, I am going Cup 2 over garbage PSS all day.
