Very impressive! We still haven't met up here in Dallas, yet! Only at 2300 miles here, but planning on a trip to Austin in a month.
Me too. 12,500 miles

I've also received a few CELs and have an appointment to drop it off soon. I'm assuming Germany will be interested in why my CS has thrown a CEL 3 times that then goes away, so I may prod them for more info if I get to talk to someone from Deutschland.
Total bunk. There is no updated ECU map loaded at 1200 mile service. It's amazing how these stories continue here in 2021. Next up will be the rehash of the throttle recal with the pedal...que it up.

Well FWIW, today I had my 1200 mile service. Our son works at the dealership, and took it in. He asked both the lead tech and another very tech oriented member of the team. Their answer, to the performance unlock was: slight RPM raise, and the enabling of launch control (I assume DCT only, which we dont have?). Who knows I do not have data to compare before and after.

Yeah, that's not true at all.

You get to take it to redline. That's the 'performance unlock' they are advertising! *****Ten out of ten, highly recommended, will take to redline again!

Fine by me. Only sharing what I was told, and I don't really care either way.

You'd know if the car had a lockout. Any car that does gives you a readout on the instrument cluster that launch control is disabled until X miles due to being new, or is even limited in revs/power. There aren't many cars that even do this. The only two that come to mind are the C8, and a couple cars like the Hellcat which don't allow launch control until you reach 500 miles.

There may be some supercars that do it as well that i'm not aware of. However, i'm not aware of ANY BMW that does this.

I have yet to try launch control, so I know nothing. (Except that I overwhelm the rear PSS without launch control, so what's the point to trying??)

.I have had my CS since Dec 22,2020 delivery.
Only have 640 miles on the clock.

....I know, I should be driving it more often, but life plans have taken me out of the drivers seat more than had been expected…

Anyway, should I continue to wait until 1200 miles or schedule the first service since it has been a year of ownership?

Thanks in advance.

You are only about 10 hours of drive time ( freeway ) from 1200 miles. I can relate to life interrupts ! But take a few long drive freeway trips - remember to vary your rpms and speeds - and get this car to 1200 ! It wont take long to do this --5 hours this Satuday and repeat it on Sunday

I think it states somewhere that you should do the 1200 mile service at the earlier of 1200 miles or 12 months. If I were you, I'd check with the dealership. You don't want to miss the service.

I personally would want to be closer to the 1200 mile mark (I think I have read here that someone posted it can be done as early as 800?). As suggested, I would talk to an SA at your dealership.

Thanks for the reply.

What's the risk in missing the service?
It isn't complimentary though, is it?

The service is complimentary, but I think (don't quote me though), I think it could have an impact on the warranty if the 1200 mile service is missed.

I know for a fact that I'd never buy an M car, especially a CS, that missed the 1200 mile service.

I'm in a similar position. I've had mine since late March 21 and have done 665 km or roughly 400 miles. When I asked my service manager, he said wait till 2000 km (1200 miles).

when I asked about the timing, he said if the car has done close enough to 2000 km within 18 months, then bring it in.

I'm not so sure about that but can say I won't be leaving it beyond 12 months before I take it in for the royal flush of all the vital fluids.

Also, if you have something as trivial as Carly or Bimmercode, you can quickly see what the CEL is related to since the code will have been stored (along with other data of the instance of the CEL) even if the CEL is not currently illuminated. The S55 has been around for many years, and the CS is identical to the C (other than the ECU map but mechanically identical in all respects) and identical to the M3 and M4. There is nothing that will be sent to Germany. The engine is out of production. 99.9% of inquiries will have been handled here in the USA via a PUMA case if they fall outside normal troubleshooting procedures.

I have both, 4 different OBD readers actually, and nothing showed up.
It's in for it's annual now and they're going to look into it.
