Totally agreed. There are so many gt4 and gt3s at my club and there is no question they are better than my m2c but a lot of them, when they see me sliding around, come back and say wow that looks like so much fun. M2 requires a good to great driver; gt4 and gt3 not so much.
Bimmer dudes reproduce and need backseats for offspring, or otherwise have friends they need to haul. Porsche bros just have magazine stats and internet articles which need no more space than their frunks provide. Don't @ me

Porsche "bros" are also overwhelmingly 67 year old dentists so there is that.

This comparison test is old news.

Cayman is obviously the better car but the M2 is fun because it's imperfect.

Anyhow these cars have never been competitors. Technically speaking it should be Boxster vs Z4. 2-series is a 2+2 coupe.

Value does the money is no contest, BMW
I'd rather drive a a car that does 0-60 in 8 seconds but is mechanical with a manual gearbox and can act like a hooligan than an AWD 'sports car' full of computers that does 0-60 in 3.5s

.
I have to agree with you here, we too often hear about 1/4 mile or 0-60 times. That said - and I admit I haven't driven either of these two cars yet - when you look at the weight of each, I would expect the Cayman to be the better handling and more responsive.

Cup2 vs Pirelli PZ4. Surprised it was so close with such a drastically inferior tire.

The M2 is a coupe, as is the Cayman. Which is like saying that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a man, and so is Pee Wee.

The Cayman might be the better sports car, but it's not saddled with a useful backseat, nor does it share its architecture with a dozen other Porsches. The CS is already sold out, and you're not cross shopping them.

Again with the "feel". If that were the case, wed all be buying the same cars. I hate "feel". I love how it feels…to me. Which might not be relevant to you.
Also the M2 is probably a more safer car. The 2 series was recognized by IIHS as a safe car, not sure about the Cayman.

In general there is less data out there on Porsche's safety in my opinion. I don't see much on IIHS's website.

Magazines are dumb, just ignore. This article was probably written by someone who doesn't understand the personality of the cars. Yes they are different yet similar in certain ways.

Also what is "better" may differ. M2 is better in safety and daily usability.

win at what? 0-60 times? LOL

in the old days people bought and loved cars because they were fun, and would be a companion on adventures in their lives. Faster Nurburgring times didn't matter. Statistics don't matter much.

I'd rather drive a a car that does 0-60 in 8 seconds but is mechanical with a manual gearbox and can act like a hooligan than an AWD 'sports car' full of computers that does 0-60 in 3.5s

Having driven multiple Cayman including GTS models they are great but very very clinical. They are not enjoyable like a hooligan. I haven't driven an M2 CS but I am fairly sure it would be more playful than the Porsche...probably by quite a margin.

I disagree. Or rather I think BMWs are fairly neutral and can be forgiving.

Where as a mid or rear engine car will bite you if you're careless.

lol there’s nothing more neutral then a mid-engined car. You can flick a Cayman/Boxster and it will pull itself right back in. Rear engined especially the classics are a different story.

That's funny and a Ford Probe is no doubt driven by a Proctologist

Yeah, except that's all tire as someone above mentioned. One is on a PS4S equivalent, and the other is on Cup 2. With BMW, best not to get into a numbers game anyway because there are almost always cars that beat them on paper at lower prices.

Interesting the different perspectives considering EVO just said it’s the best German car ever (m2 CS) over the gts and it’s more expensive bigger brother the gt4

Motor Trend did the same review

https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2...arison-review/

"Drive all four of these cars, manuals together and dual-clutches together, and the head and heart collide. We like being quicker and faster than the other guy. We like winning. But we also like cars that speak to our souls, that remind us why we love driving in the first place. The Porsche is quicker and faster. The BMW is, in the majority of situations, more fun.
Or, as Lieberman honed in: "Look, I can make the argument the 718 Cayman GT4 is the third or fourth best-driving Porsche on sale. I can also say the M2 CS is the best-driving BMW ever made.""

If you live on a racetrack the Porsche is probably the best choice. If you don't then the BMW is way more fun. Fun is the key word here. Don't attack me with stats. Fun is what it's all about. Fun. Grins. Smiles.
