Honestly a little expensive but worth it. Around 2000 for the new ECU + tune. But you get to keep your old ECU with you.

Since the older DME wasn't really available in the M2 CS production timing, can I even get a stock CS tune to on the older DME if I purchased one and then had the tune on top of that?

I've considered this route but taking the DME in and out is a lot of work so I am also considering just going with a JB4 in the meantime.

The "older" DME is the same exact hardware as the newer DME, besides a different internal protection that was written in by Bosch to a non-BMW data area, beginning ~June/July 2020. They're still the same part numbers.

The DME from the M2C and M2CS is the same DME and they can accept whichever software. It's the same part numbers.

So yes, you can get a CS flash on a spare DME and a tune on top of that. It's the same process as the M2C, just using original M2CS data instead.

FaRKle! how long did the DME swap take?

I can do it a lot faster now, haha. For someone just following my video who's never done it, maybe 1.5-2hrs.

I am actually running a CS+ map now on my car, around 480hp and pretty much the same tune as a CS with a little bit more power. Power feels lovely and input is really nice as well.

I confirm it's pretty easy. The only pain is getting the ISN data from the FEM, and everything after that is easy. The whole process shouldn't take more than 2-3 hours. I did mine in the same time as I was installing Jpipe and chargepipe which made it even easier.

I was planning to do it at the same time as the charge pipes and possibly an upgraded intercooler if I can ever decide that it's worth it. Can't see doing it for nothing.

Is this a "CS tune" from bm3 or an actual factory tune you can load? Others elsewhere on the board claim that the bm3 "CS tune" is a pure copy of the real CS tune, but I don't have confirmation of that anywhere I can find.

The one I have is actually the M4 GTS map but without the water injection, so something like a CS+ map. That's why I estimated somewhere around 480hp.
Will be putting the stage 1 tune as soon as I remove the OPF filter which is somewhere in the 530-540 hp range. Bm3 gives you the option to cycle the different maps.

So I think there may be two trains of thought here.

For an M2CS car, the base flash must absolutely be a factory M2CS flash with the CS firmware, reporting as M2CS. In my opinion if an M2CS gets a tune, it should definitely be on the original CS firmware, or else it will report as an M2C firmware to dealer/diagnostic systems. (FWIW any M2C can take M2CS firmware in, even locked 2021s, BUT you cannot use this factory flash on an M2C because of factory protections. The car would simply remain in limp mode if you tried, ask me how I know this ...)

Regarding M2C with a CS map, this is not a pure copy. (I suppose we'd have to discuss what a pure copy means). A pure copy would go into limp mode as above. This is an M2C tune with the power settings copied from the CS data. It is mostly a copy/paste of a couple of power request maps. This is pretty easy, but requires OBD unlock because it's not a signed/approved flash. It's just a modified tune. I write my own S55 tunes and have done a few of these for people.

Thanks, that was very helpful! Sometime after the first of the year I'm going to look further into tuning my M2C.

Where did you get the new DME? Was it something that came as a new DME already bench unlocked and ready to be installed and flashed as a "kit"?

I wonder what forces it into limp mode. I assume it is far more trouble than it's worth to work the problem from that angle?

Yes, if you use our solution you receive the new DME already unlocked and ready to be installed. Then there's a remote session to make sure everything's initialized and all errors from the DME swap cleared.

Is your solution US Specific or would it work in an Australia delivered vehicle? If so, typical costing?

I have a 2020 M2CS US Spec. Are you saying that I can't do a DME swap unless is from a pre June 2020 DME from a M2CS? If so does it have to be from North America? My DME was made in November of 2020 and I think most NA CS cars were made post June 2020.

It's not US specific, there have been a couple enthusiasts in the UK that have received our solution.

I was saying that the hardware is the same between M2C and M2CS, it doesn't have to be from a CS. It has to be programmed with CS *software to be done right.

Enabled hooked me up with the ECU. All I needed to do from my side was get the ISN from someone who was able to take the FEM out of the car and find the ISN data from it.
Had a few errors after having the new ECU come in but nothing that is worth worrying that couldnt be resolved.

It's a software protection that BMW has been using for a while now to prevent using the other model's software in a lower power model. In the case of M2C vs. M2CS, they are also using an FSC enabling code. Avoiding limp mode requires custom tuning one way or another.

I've done it for USA and Euro based vehicles. It would work for any variant. Depending on what needs to be done the price can vary quite a bit. I will discuss this over PM.
