And not a very good track tire, at that.
The Trofeo R has just as much grip on track, and is much quieter and more comfortable on the street than the R888R. |

I ran a set this season (OEM size) because I had a special price, compared to the cup2s I was running last year they are pretty much garbage..

I've heard this too, do they take long to warm up?

I was recently at Thunderhill 3-mile with 265 + 295 R888Rs and I had substantially more grip than stock (expected), more than I had with RE71Rs (255/275) and I felt like a bit more warning before they let go than I did with the Sport Cups (245/265) and perhaps more grip but probably due to the size difference. That being said it was a very hot and smokey day there may have been a bit too much heat in them in the final sessions. Hope to give them a better run another day.
I wouldn't drive them on the road though - I've luckily got a dedicated set of track wheels that I swap to at the track. |

As I and many others have said, it’s a crappy tire (and I’ve seen multiple 911s blow out sidewalls on track with R888Rs and they were lucky not to end up in the wall):
I feel bad for M2C guys stuck with 19s. Put some better 18” tires on an M2, and the M2C loses all its advantages on track. I speak from experience: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1464923 |

Just to provide a little more input on this.
I just ran a 2 day weekend at Laguna Seca. Saturday I ran new MPSS fronts and almost new MPSS rears. On Sunday I ran new R888R front and rear, same tire size in both cases. Track temps conditions were close between the two days. I ran on avg ~2s a lap faster on the R888R than the MPSS. The car is completely stock other than pads/fluid - could have maybe done better with some stiffer springs/shocks with the stickier tires. Other than that R888R felt good to me, ran them around 36 PSI hot - will report back with more info as I drive on them more. Road noise is terrible. Last edited by Erwan; 10-12-2020 at 11:42 PM.. |

I'm well aware of what an R888R competes against. And you can expect a few seconds difference but I can tell you on a stock M2c I was seeing an avg ~2s a lap faster at Laguna Seca (which is a short track - the time difference as a function of the track is important) - on the same weekend and both sets practically new.
