I could only find the Sottozero IIs from TireRack and put them on in the stock configuration (245/265). Loving them so far and with 5-8" coming to Chicago tonight, I'll get more seat time on them.

yes but running 245 in the rears is too narrow. 255 square is ideal.

Hmm, I'll see what I can find. 245s is what TireRack recommends. I've got a friend with a similar setup on his M3 with 666Ms running 255s or 265s all around (and also recommended by TireRack). The rears are definitely stretched a bit, but it seems to work OK.

Going down to the 18s is tempting though just to then be able to have a wider range of tire!

i spoke with tirerack before ordering the tires. 255 was a much better option.

Cool -- looks like I can also get Hakkapelita R3s in 255/35/R19 which is a huge, huge plus. Thanks!!

here is the rear with 255/35/19.
- a little stretch with a little poke
- leaves the wheel edge exposed

I went for the Hallapelita R3s in 255/35/R19.

The tire I guess is much larger than the Sottozero and the stretch is hardly noticeable -- I'll post some pictures of that later.

However, the tires are pretty meaty and "touch" the front wheel liners. I wouldn't call it rubbing since there's wear, but I do occasionally hear a bit of a scuff in parking lots so far.

I live in Santa Fe, NM and our winters are pretty darn mild. Conversely, we have horrific drivers here. Like the worst I have ever seen in any state I have driven in. Just for some perspective: In New Mexico after age 18, you can get a drivers license by passing a written test only. No drivers ed, or road test required. Also we have many unlicensed / uninsureds.

Even if my M2C is properly equipped for the snow, folks here completely lose their minds behind the wheel when they see two drops of rain on their windshields, not to mention having absolutely zero winter driving skills under slippery conditions. I can't be assured that another driver won't drift right into me, at no fault of my own. In fact it is highly likely. So in my case, no sense buying winters. My M won't be leaving the garage if it looks even the slightest bit iffy out.
