Interesting that BMW OEM 641m set for M3/M4 comes with 255 squared, but for the M2C, they put 235 all around. But the wheels itself are identical, 8.5 front and 9 rear for both M2 and M3/M4. Wonder why...

Ruined. One time my 1M got caught out in the rain. Sold it that weekend to some sucker for only a grand less than what I paid for it at the dealer. He didn't ask if it had seen rain so I guess he got screwed lol.

I understand what you mean, but if you aren't going to drive it even in the rain, why not buy something like a Boxster Spyder or other true sports car?

BMW's winter sizes are strange and there are possibly more than one tire option for the winter sets. If I remember correctly, the 235 square setup they sell gives you a rear overall diameter that is pretty far off for an OEM set. I thought I had read the square 235 set was to allow for chains. Supposedly the standard M2 set is 235/255. 235/35/19 and 255/35/19 are reasonable sizes. BMW probably goes to 8.5" front to minimize stretch on the 235.

I would just forget their sizes and run 245 square or 245/255 staggered.

I run 245 all around for my winter setup on 8.5 (F) and 9.5 (R) and it works great.

Agree Don't buy a BMW tire setup...winter setups should always be square.

Happy to see so many M2 drivers who will drive their cars in the winter; not like those boring paranoid peeps who drive beaters!!

Do you think 245 squared will be a better option for winter than 235? Or is it only an aesthetic thing?

Probably not much difference. 235/255 retains the factory staggered setup, but tire choices will be more limited.

In general, for winter driving conditions thru snow, narrower tire preferred to cut through the snow albeit 10mm is not that significant. What square setup and size may depend on what winter tires are available that fit the M2C as has been said in previous posts.

In regards to to just swapping out summer tires for winters (on same set of wheels) 2x a season.....(and assuming you have a place to store the off-season set of wheels & tires)
- Assuming you intend to keep the vehicle for 3+ years, you likely can offset the price of 2nd set of wheels by avoided the changeover cost of dismount/mount/balance 2 time per season.
- You and everyone else...will be looking for the tire shop the night before he first forecasted snow (unless you think ahead and swap them out when temps regularly dip below 40 degrees... snow notwithstanding.

Good luck with your decision....it's only the end of August and I'm already seeing various tire brands offering rebates on tires...and winter tires qualify for most . Personally, I've used Tire Rack's house wheels for my winter tires and their website is full of available wheel and tire info/ratings.

Thanks! Do you have any idea why BMW have used for their 19" OEM set only 235 squared option, while the 18" is staggered 235/255? Is there any relation between diameter and the width of the tires?

OP, I keep my snow tires on my Taco so not much help there. The thing in your original post not many people have commented on is the spare. Having lost days on long trips, even with run flats, I like to carry one.

For my M2, I went with the Bimmerzone spare tire kit. The brake sizes on the M2C will likely mean that this kit won't work so it may take some planning to get the right setup.

If you are going with a set of winter wheels & tires, you could always keep one in the trunk and get a jack & lug wrench.

It takes skill. But makes you a better driver.

A photo from last winter when we went up to a mountain resort...windy snowy roads. I grew thousands of new chest hairs!!

I have a small kid and a wife I love. If I didn't feel safe in the 1M I wouldn't do it! These cars do great in the snow with great tires. All RWD BMWs are inherently well balanced and made for this...it's a shame so many people are scared to drive them as intended.

Even if you don't plan to drive in the snow, I've heard it's still bad to drive on summer tires when its cold? Is it equally as bad for tire wear as it is for performance / safety?

Definitely. Summer tires are too hard of a compound in low temperatures; hence limited grip, subpar braking and turning, and odd wear patterns.

Summer tires can be downright dangerous. I got stuck in a flat driveway with Bridgestone RE050A with barely any snow.

For wear I am not sure, but I know extreme summer tire compounds will develop microcracking if exposed to freezing temps for a long time.

+1. Drive the shit out of it. My winter tires are going on as soon as we are hitting temps lower than 7°C during the day.

Is it possible to run 255 35 19 winter tires all-round on the stock 788M wheels?
