763m gold paint or powder coat?

Anyone know what BMW does to get the pale gold finish on the 763M wheels? Would love to experiment and try to replicate this finish on the 437M wheels. Is this paint or another process?

"Craftsmanship: The Frozen Gold finish is produced from an elaborate polishing process followed by the application of the gold pigment under a transparent lacquer. This creates the frozen look and incredible impression of depth."

The color is hard to describe accurately. Based on closer inspection of some of the nooks and crannies of the wheel, it looks as if the wheel is painted a base silver, then a goldish layer is airbrushed over the top, and then a special layer of frosted clear coat. There is a YouTube video that describes somewhat the process for painting the actual body. I'm sure some of that is applicable to these wheels.

Here are a couple of shots in different light of my set which has yet to go on the car. For what it's worth, I don't think the color looks "deep" at all.....at least not my definition of deep. The lack of a regular clear coat is probably why. I would describe as very dynamic.

When I toured the VPC the paint guy there explained a bit about the frozen colors. It's more the clear coat the the paint it's self. That's why they say to never use wax or polish on frozen.

The 763m wheels have a frozen finish. Assuming it's using the same type of frozen techniques used on the frozen paint on car you might only need a clear coat.. check this link

I have the frozen gold wheels on SO and they look more of a Champagne color than gold.

I saw them once in person at my dealer. I'm not one to exaggerate, but the color/finish really is unique to any wheel color I've seen before

Personally too flashy for my taste, but they do look nice

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but your car looks sick. Love those frozen gold wheels on the SO.

Richland's gold isn't an imitation at all, it's single stage powder coat IIRC. The factory Frozen Gold is a 3-stage paint:

1. dark primer
2. silver (which is then lightly polished)
3. clear gold
4. semi-gloss clear

Because of the process itself, the Frozen Gold finish really is in a class of its own.

The gold RF wheels look fantastic though. I'm sure Lyle will give you several samples if you ask, he's great to deal with. richlandforged

Although many refer to our RF-GT4 as a replica of the 763M, it is not exactly the case as our Project Nürburg is intrinsically inspired by the GT4 wheel used on the BMW factory racing program on the F82 platform, and the GT3 series used on the F13 (M6), which in standard form doesnt provide native fitment, nor sizing beyond 18" square. The 763M is the "consumer version" of that wheel, and has notable differences in its design that separates from the GT4 wheel and the true "race" pedigree

Attached is a comparison shot of our Brushed Competition Gold vs our newly released "Iced Gold". The Iced Gold, is a Matte finished Gold, along the lines of Aurum Gold via Porsche, however present, but likely a bit less "Bronze" in our formulation comparatively to the Porsche version, We really like it!!!

This photo in fairly bright 4000k shop light against Alpine White, presents pretty bright/light in this lighting.....

Maybe already known by those interested in this thread, but we have a full set of the M2 spec IN STOCK, ready to ship out, with no lead time!!

Bumping this old thread. Unfortunately last night i got some curb rash on one of my 763m wheels. I have a wheel repair guy that does great work and said he can do the repair if I can get him the paint code for Frozen Gold. I have searched quite a bit but so far no luck. Is there anyone on in this group that might be able to get the codes?

Thanks in advance.

There is no known paint code. Its a black base, silver second coat and gold top coat apparently. Very difficult to match.

Can the process be done on other wheels?

Can I send wheels to the same place 763M's are painted? Is their method proprietary and private so no others can replicate 100%?

I'd like to get as close as possible to exact, preferably EXACT!

They are painted at Taiwan SAI. You can’t get them repainted by the manufacturer. A match will be totally up to the skill of the local person you select.

I've had one of mine touched up. You can't see the repair, but when you get right up to the repair spot with your face you can tell it's nothing like the original finish. They just did a great job matching the gold. I had multiple wheel repair shops refuse to attempt the match.

Got an estimate from my local BMW Certified collision center; their estimate is $800 to respray? style 313m wheels for me. What do you think?

I concur. However, I didn't get the detail of whether they would do a multi step process like SAI or not. How important could that be?

You’re not going to match this perfectly with one base coat and clear. How close they can get is anyone’s guess.

I think $800 for a multistep attempt like the originals is a great deal. My BMW dealership charged me $250 to do a scrape repair that I think was more of a single color match. Even $800 to spay a set of wheels a single color gold seems reasonable.

I've noticed that not may people pay attention to the hue of gold from brand to brand. They just see gold.
