2020 BMW M2 CS vs. 2021 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4: Surprise, Surprise

https://www.motortrend.com/cars/bmw/...arison-review/

"Drive all four of these cars, manuals together and dual-clutches together, and the head and heart collide. We like being quicker and faster than the other guy. We like winning. But we also like cars that speak to our souls, that remind us why we love driving in the first place. The Porsche is quicker and faster. The BMW is, in the majority of situations, more fun.

Or, as Lieberman honed in: 'Look, I can make the argument the 718 Cayman GT4 is the third or fourth best-driving Porsche on sale. I can also say the M2 CS is the best-driving BMW ever made.' "

Frankly I think you'd be silly to sell any variant of the F87 before driving it into the ground.

Really hard to imagine that BMW can top it with the G87, the bar has been set so high. Not to mention the G87 is assured to be more expensive.

Nice article, I have only driven the lesser versions of both cars but I agree. The M2 is fun first, lap times second.

M2 is much more fun and playful at a lower price point

.
True words my OG has 169,000 ks and I have just taking it of DD duties. Also provide it with some Ohlins / intercooler / catless and E40.
I can see a cage in its future. Taking it to the track soon to see how it goes against some real track cars

Not trying to bash the F87 but I am pretty sure G87 will easily be better. The steering will be better, the engine will be better, and at least for 6MT the transmission will be a little better. Consensus is that G8x is better than F8x so far, so I don't see why there would be a departure. The interior will also be a big upgrade and you'll finally be able to turn off rev matching etc.

Or, they may go too far with the “improvements” and turn it into another G20.
I was bored with the G20 after 3 months.
Loved my F30 and F80 for 3 years (lease)

I agree. I’ve had E92 M3 then cayman S. Never thought I’d sell either. But did within 2 years. Granted Porsche was more a practical issue at the time. But I’m 2 years into ownership of my OG LBB M2 and I just don’t see what I’d get if I sold it. Unsure if I’ll have past warranty but most likely. It’s just such an amazing car.
Only chance is for a convertible as my gf has a Range Rover and if we get married , it would be great to have an RR and a convertible. A good pair.

Owning both cars I would say you can not compare them because very different animals.

Compliant they are, as they are the very best drivers cars on sale today, bare none.

Reading back, this is funny. A month later and I now have a 2018 M4 Comp Convertible. They gave me incredible trade for M2.

Agree with you on the latter, but I noticed in driving once you get down to the really important acute things that are so much harder to get right, Porsche nails them in spades; the steering, the overall suspension rebound and dampening tuning, the spine tingling nature of the engine in the GT4, the gearbox and throw of the shifter, the clutch actuation are all just a level above.
