It’s both. You can order individually through the parts department after you’ve taken delivery. Also, you can apply carbon bits to your car if you order from the factory. The parts aren’t added at the factory but are installed once the car arrives at the port. The downside, is that the port keeps your stock parts if that matters to you.

With the Bimmer carbon, if you order a car with additional port installed parts, the install cost is free right? And it's shown on the sticker? Good luck.

Well, it could be a couple of things. The dealer could be lazy and doesn't want to spec up carbon bits because either they dont want to, or they feel like they are harder to sell if the buyer backs out. A year ago when I was shopping for my M2, I saw that the (very) few M2Cs that had Carbon bits, had been sitting around for months unsold. The problem is that the carbon drive the price of the M2 to near 70k, not a price many are willing to pay.

The good thing about port installed parts is that they can be financed through BMW Financial because they become part of the list price of the car. Parts bought over the counter cannot be financed. |

Good comments here and I concur with much of what has been said. I am confident that I can install the stuff but it's the time and energy to do so when I can simply have it done with a window sticker to prove it. Anything happens, you can prove via window sticker that your car had something from the factory. I think it's better than having a parts' counter receipt. Neither here nor there, I suppose but if it is an option, I would hope that my salesperson is aware and conveying that information and just not declining the option for some other reason(s).

I didn't really care about keeping the original diffuser or exhaust, but when I bought 763s, I def wanted to keep the 788s.
Gotta be careful ordering BMW performance parts, that stuff adds up fast! Thanks for the info.

Interesting reads, ty. I never realized that extensive repainting was an option on new cars. I hope mine doesn't end up needing anything like that.
