I think the mileage ends up generally falling into four classes:
Garage queen/never moves <300 miles per year
Light Use 1000-5000 miles per year
"3 seasons: 5000-10,000 year
Heavy use: 10000+ year

The garage queen cars are just for collectors and are rarity gambles.
There's usually not a big difference in price across the Light Use/3 seasons batches. Just some preference in sales going to the Light use cars.
The only cost hit is the Heavy Use cars, but even those as the cars become less available the prices rebound eventually on if the maintenance and condition is solid.

Sorry, I meant lower in stock form, not lowered. The M2 is a bit too high to my taste for a track-oriented sport car. But it’s pretty much a detail.
My main issue with the CS is really the color palette. Only 4 colors, none unique to the car, and none that I’m fan of. A more minor but still serious issue is the noise that is decent, but far from epic (at least in Europe).
Anyway, perfection does not exist, and I thank BMW for having produced such an amazing version of the M2!

I feel bad for everyone in Europe because they have to deal with the particulate filters ruining the exhaust note. We don't have that in the US, freedom. lol

In regards to future values, I'm always looking for my cars to depreciate as little as possible. They're not investments, I have stock for that. But I'd rather they be assets than liabilities if possible. My Daytona Violet 95 M3 is slowly going up in value. The M2 CS certainly falls in the asset category as well where it's not going to depreciate faster than I can enjoy it, and that's comforting to know.

The exhaust sound still sucks here in the US too. I think the point, and some people said it, is that the ugly exhaust in the back kind of defines the car and to remove it may detract from the car a bit. I don't know, I go back and forth on if i want to swap it out. But OPF or no OPF, the S55 exhaust note is serviceable at best.

As far as predicted depreciation, its probably our responsibility here to keep examples in good shape. I think after some shock depreciation as some cars get sold used immediately after purchase, and there is some stock that hangs on dealer lots through summer. After about 5-6 years, i expect used examples may settle in around 55k-60k at worst.

It also depends on what BMW makes. The CS is just so well proportioned, and is much prettier than the e92 m3, F80 M3's, and stock M2C. Could be viewed as prettier than 1M as time passes. If it still is viewed as the best car BMW ever made in 8 years time, then its probably going to start edging back to its original purchase price and settle there.

I agree except that I think the M2 CS is worlds prettier and better looking than the 1M right now. The 1M styling is fine but the M2 CS looks like art.

The 1M looks like a clown car. But that's part of its appeal.

The CS looks like sex. But that's part of its appeal too.

I love the way the M2 CS looks from all angles. Some people say the rear looks "chunky".

Insane hips on this beast. I think it's the same rear axle as the F80 and that was wide enough.

I was really surprised at how ticked off some Porsche owners are at the M2 CS winning awards. I know there is alot of owners of both cars here, but there was a very ticked off thread on Rennlist on the Evo Car of the Year results, and a letter in this month's Evo upset at the results and how the GTS 4.0 didn't win.

Both are really good cars, but personally I still can't imagine owning the GT4/GTS 4.0 as primarily a street car in manual with 2nd gear redline topping out at 84 mph. So i understand why the M2 CS would be a more desirable car if street + track were taken into consideration.

There are enough people on here that have argued that the Porsche's are superior and the only "true" sports cars as well. So it's not really all that surprising. It's a circular, ad nauseum argument either way. Always going to be someone arguing about something. Mustang VS Camaro, chocolate versus vanilla, left versus right. Whatever.

They should just put up the 100-200kph times for the two cars next to them to convey the difference:

M2C: 10.59
M2CS: 8.21
Mine does 100-200kmh in 7.91s in D flooring it and voila:-)

(Dragy)
And 0-200kmh in 11.99s exactly

MHD Stage 0 GTS.

That's what my Comp needed:-)

Cheers

My take, in consultation with my wife, as owners of both:

The 1M has a closer stylistic connection to the classic BMW look. It's Bangle, but it is still squarish, boxy, small kidney grills. It's fender flares are clearly an afterthought on what is otherwise a standard 1-series body, which is what makes them so caricatured and gives the bulldog look.

The CS is perhaps the final attempt to look like a BMW in the age of grill expansion, and has perfect proportions. The fender flares were clearly designed from the ground up for the M body (compared to standard 2-series) so while being just as wide compared to the width at the doors, they don't look as obvious.

My wife believes the 1M will age better aesthetically. I will wait and see.

If all the F87 CS was meant to be is a tribute car I'd concur. But this is one example of BMW designing a car to its full and current potential that I fully embrace. I love well earned heritage, but I don't think we should be a slave to it.

Regarding some of the exhaust talk, I personally do not hate the look. I feel like some people are biased about hating it from seeing everybody on the internet say they hate it before seeing it in real life. This pic shamefully stolen from the daily photo thread, but I do not hate this one bit: (edit: one more thought, I do not understand painting the exhaust matte black with high temp paint...that sounds and looks gross to me)

In agreement with you, the way I look at it is, if you parent a child who has a big birthmark on the face, would you love that child any less? The short answer is no.

M2 CS is beautiful and loveable no matter what and if it has a giant birthmark on its ass, so be it, I still love it as it is.

I really like it. Especially as the pipes on the CS are stainless steel and match the muffler. I do not know why people hate it so much.

I'm with you on this. I think the exhaust design was a conscious decision and I'm embracing it. In a few years cars won't have exhausts at all and this will be more notable in those classics that do have them.
