N55 ewg turbo heat shield or blanket
Does anyone know of a turbo heat shield or blanket that would be compatible with the F series n55 ewg turbo? Keeping in mind that the EWG actuator arm must not be obstructed to function well. I just wanted to keep Underhood temps down and isolate the engine bay from the hot turbo.
I found this on ECS tuning but I'm not sure if it actually fits preoperly (cleat the actuator arm) even though the website say it'll fit the exhaust housing. Let me know if you've ever had experience with this product. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-dei-part...ld-kit/010141/ |

Not a bad idea to keep the heat in check. Can’t speak to the quality of ECS, but I know Supra guys insist that you get what you pay for in turbo blankets. With the low quality blankets, they fall apart quickly.

It's from DEI who imo are pretty reputable when it comes to turbo blankets and header wraps. It's just that it's sold through ECS. My only concern is that the actuator arm for the EWG won't clear the blanket.

It does say it'll fit all BMWs...the turbos shouldn't vary too much in overall size.
But from my experience with using these in my diesel trucks they typically have the blanket shaped to go around and under the actuators. The hardest part is usually getting it wrapped snug enough with the provided wire. Apologies if I didn't help much. Possibly message ECS and ask if they've personally used it on a BMW? |

Thanks for your reply, I think they say fits all BMWs because the exhaust housing is within the size range that they support. The only issue is the clearance between the housing and the actuator arm is pretty close on our turbos so I'm just worried. I'll probably call or email ecs and ask them. |

Let me know what they say. I might end up buying one myself. Makes a massive difference with under hood temps and keeps the heat where it need to be! Although getting to the turbo on the M2 might be a tight squeeze |

Just bumping this thread:
It seems we will finally have a turbo blanket option! This is really good news.

So, the update on this is the Heatshield Products guys (super nice) overnighted their first turbofold blanket and Armor insulation to try out.
Unfortunately the blanket didn’t fit. The turbo housing wrap wouldn’t clear the wastegate actuator arm, and the manifold wrap portion wouldn’t clear the coolant pipe. My mechanic commented that he could probably get it on if the engine was out of the car, but even with doing a turbo job there was no way to put it on and then slide it passed everything to clear. It’s just way too tight down there on an M2 N55. Maybe it’ll fit N55’s in other BMW models? Either way, their materials are top notch and they’re already updating their design. We did wrap the downpipe with Armor and I did a couple logs, but it doesn’t look to be impacting IATs which makes sense b/c it’s below the engine bay. I think the turbofold blanket could have helped with engine temps & IATs some, tho. Pics below. Last edited by ZM2; 11-06-2021 at 01:37 PM.. |

Did you inform heatshield products of your inability to fit their product? Maybe they can attempt to alter the design to fit the m2 n55 more appropriately.

booya_45 No problem. Heatshield Products says they're close to having V2 ready to go, but I'm going to let someone else try it this time.
Wheats1 Yup, I switched to a TTE460. Big grin every time I mash the gas, now! |

If you have a stock turbo and manifold on hand you could bench test fitment.

Someone needs to try to slip V2 on their turbo & manifold without having to remove it to see if it's possible. |

Yeah true... Damn our engine bays are so tight. You should've used some thermal reflective tape on the coolant hose too, that thing is way too close to the exhaust manifold.
