Replacing 1 Tire

So there's a massive nail in one of my front tires. I have the wheel/tire warranty from BMW and when I called, they said they would only replace the tire that has the damage to it so I'd likely have an uneven tire tread depth on the fronts.

I asked if they would replace both fronts, but that was shot down.

Would you recommend I get the new tire shaved to match the depth of my other tire?

Never had a warranty before on tires so this is new territory for me as dumb as this sounds.

I also just had 2 tires replaced only on one side (passenger front and rear) due to nails. The in house BMW tire guy said it is ok after he measured my treads on the driver sides

Do a track day on any clockwise circuit with it mounted on the left and it should sort you out!

But seriously, in the dry it is very unlikely to be an issue at all. In the wet, there may be some asymmetric braking performance in standing water but the ABS and stability control channels are all independant so the car will look after you.

If it really bothers you, buy a new tyre and keep the demounted, half-worn tyre as a spare at home in case you get another puncture after your road hazard warranty is up.

Not a bad idea either.
