People, you, Jesus himself, can do whatever they want to do with their car, regardless of what I state, everyone here are big boys and girls and can form their own opinion, so we don't need your endorsement. I'm merely just sharing with another member who asked a direct question, on a forum open to the general public, that factually, I've been using this method for years, without any issues described. The end. And number two, from my own experience with LED lights, I believe those taillights in the video are defective, outside the realm of this topic. Just because you believe it's the infamous bulb check whatever, which seems to keep you up at night because you just won't drop it, doesn't make it fact, unless you have something factual to counter this.. Take it for what it is or don't but would you please stop with accusations already, no one is asking for an internet police. |

This just happened to my right rear (with the LED struggling to flash). Car is at the dealer and they are replacing it after seeing the code.

I've had the issue happen to me a few weeks ago, and it hasn't happened since, until today. Today it happened 3 times within about an hour.
I'll try coding out the warm bulb check and report back. |

My left one is often dim now. Today I had the right one go dim, parked the car, got back and the left one started acting up. Hitting the light with my palm a bit fixes it every single time.
I've had the check disabled for a long while now. '19 M2C |

My rear left indicator would bug out and flash an error code. Restarting the car would resolve.
Happened enough for me to take it to dealer. They replaced the entire light with a new one. |

i've been dealing with this for awhile now.
How are dealers treating this issue for most?

When my car was under warranty the dealer replaced my left indicator for no charge.

2018 LCI - I have had the left turn signal failure warning off and on for about a year. It usually clears itself within a few seconds. My warranty is up next month, so I took it to the dealer. They saw the stored codes, cleared them, couldn't detect a problem, and sent me on my way. It doesn't occur often enough to really concern me, but i wish they would have replaced the light.

Only happened once on the LHS on a very hot day in SC (about 100F+). Happened twice in one day, but hasn't happened since. According to the service history, I think the taillights have already been replaced once under warranty.

My left one does it rarely..
Looking through the coding, all the other bulbs/circuits in the taillight that are LED powered are set to no cold/hot checks for bulb failure... EXCEPT the turn signal. I wonder why that is.

I'n resurrecting this as my left rear indicator is getting bad again.
MY2018 M2C. Your screen shots of bimmer code for the REM module are very different to mine? Maybe there's been a bimmer code update by mine only shows "led conversion" for each lamp and then "active" or "unknown value" and "unknown" is selected... Last edited by doughboy; 10-05-2021 at 06:59 AM.. |

I've coded this out I think...sometime in July (2021), and haven't had the problem since.

I also have the dimming issue in my rear left indicator. It’s an M2 LCI. Malfunction message in the dash and fast blinking as well.
Video attached with hazard lights (no fast blinking): https://youtube.com/shorts/maKKmFlPrxg?feature=share After carefully reading this long thread I will first clean conector contacts and inspect ground wiring. I don’t think my issue is related to warm monitoring so I don’t plan to code this out. I will ultimately replace the whole unit if cleaning makes no improvement. The dimmed activation seems an issue with the LED board electronics itself. Last edited by Billyescopetas; 10-26-2021 at 03:10 AM.. |

When it is doing the "dimming" issue, hit the light assembly with your hand, see it it fixes it.
After a "smack" my fault goes away for a few days, then comes back, which makes me think it is some internal bad connection in the lamp housing. |

Inconsistent L/R turn signal warm test coding from factory.
Hi,
My 2018 LCI non Comp has been having issues ( thinks bulb is out, flashes rapidly ) with the rear left turn signal only. It seems to happen mainly at the start of Michigan winter (cold/damp) and this year has been doing it consistently for the past few weeks. Removing/refitting the tail light plug fixes it for a while, but then a few months later it comes back. I’ve taken it to the dealer but all they did was unplug/replug the tail light - ie fixing it for that day but not solving the issue. They refuse to admit this is a common issue, and have no instructions from BMW to do anything. After reading this forum, I checked the warm test setting. On my right turn it was coded inactive, but on my left was it was active, so I changed the left and the issue was immediately fixed. It seems that BMW did a poor job coding as I see others have found inconsistencies too. As my right was always coded inactive by BMW I have no concerns making the left match it. I do think the root cause is that the current is very close to triggering the warm current defect, and any small change in connector/ground resistance is enough to cross the limit. Hopefully it will stay fixed now. |

I turned off the warm test too, but of course now I have no failure alert at all.
You can unplug the light cluster, no indicator fail warning. Recently other cars behind were honking me, so I checked and the left rear indicator wasn't working, but no alert of course. As usual, give the light cluster a whack with my hand it works again for a few more weeks. Now I check in the mirror against garage door when I leave that the indicators are working... Another job to sort in the spring... |
