He confirmed they're the +33 in the other square wheels thread.

Great! That's a pretty strong confirmation that +20 is the preferred offset for an 18x10; making the 18x10+25 with a 5mm spacer fitment the most preferable.

I had 15mm spacers on the front and it completely ruined the steering. I don't know if being able to rotate is a big enough benefit, especially when we burn through really sticky tires in 3-4 weekends...

Supercar 3R Short Review

I ran the 3R this weekend at Thunderhill Raceway. It was 90-100°F ambient all weekend. This was my first time ever with r-comp tires and it was the first time at Thunderhill with the M2. My car has -1.9° front camber with zero toe, stock rear alignment specs, Pagid RS29 pads, Castrol SRF fluid. TireRack heat cycled these before shipping them to me. Tires were 245/40/18 front abs 265/40/18 rear on 513M rims.

I found the 3Rs to be a bit "greasy" throughout the pressure range and they felt like a less precise RE71R. That being said, they are very progressive at losing grip and intuitive when they start allowing for time to correct as long as you're not overboard. I did 4 sessions each of the 2 days with total mileage around 190 over the 2 days. I think I have another day, maybe 2 at most on these. Looking at the wear pattern, I believe more camber would help these tires as you can see the outer edge wearing faster than the main tread face.

Overall, I am not so sure I would get these again. Will likely go back to SC3s once these are done, unless they turn out to be substantially quicker on my local track compared to the 3s.

Running these with small camber is just not wise. You are throwing away money basically by not using half of the tread. I do think supercar3 is a good tire for your application. Even though I ran sc3 with -3 camber..

You are 100% right about camber. Suspension with camber plates are going on next. I'll try -2.5° front camber to start with and then increase it from there. I totally understand that -2.5 may not be enough, but it's more about learning the car's limits progressively so I am not surprised on track …

I am very interested to read your findings as you increase camber (especially if you keep everything else consistent). I do wonder if that alignment is keeping you from fully experiencing the tire though. Everything I've read says that it is an extremely capable tire and should be quite a bit quicker than a non-R SC3.

That aside, I have only run my car at -3.2° front with the 245/265 SC3 and found the car quite manageable and safe (i.e. understeer biased).

A very serious guy (lap record holder on multiple tracks) told me that the SC3R is as fast as a Hoosier R7, having run both on his car. He also said that their life is measured in sessions, not days, for what it's worth.

For anyone that has ran the Supercar 3, what is your target track pressure?

Heading to my first track day on Monday with a new set. I have a lot to figure out with a new car, new track, new suspension. Lots to dial in.

Just looking for a ballpark pressure. I'll obviously will fine tune to what I need but any prior experience is appreciated.

Thanks,
JJ

I have 275/35/18s on 9.5 F; 10.5 R Apex wheels, hopefully GY will Expand their line-up and offer these in 285 or 295 at some point in the future. Wear rate looks promising, and the price is definitely right on these GYs. They seems to like 35 lbs hot f/r.
Any update on the SC3? The 3R is OOS until next year from TireRack. Guess I’ll might have to go back to the old reliable NT01.

I am on my second set of SC3s (255/40, 275/40) on 513Ms. This time I have KW Clubsports on the car and -2.8° front camber (zero toe). After 4 days on them, I still like the feel and feedback. However, I am sensing a slight drop in max grip - almost as if they are starting to heat cycle out. They still allow for a good pace and fun, but not sure if I'll be setting a PB on these. I'd still recommend these tires for anyone looking for a 200tw track day and streetable tire though.

Adding my own experience to the hive. I'm just about done with my first set of sc3r's and they're an amazing tire. I run them on my e46 m3 race car, at about 2900 lbs with me inside.

They have very impressive and predictable grip. Each day I go out, I make new PB's. They do not have a long life, as I'm 12 sessions in with street driving to/from the track and the tires are nearly bald. It probably has a day or two left in them.

I really hope GY comes back with more supply. I was really hoping to run these tires in TT, so I can get some points back to run more power. If not, I may have to revert back to the a052's.

Who is running the Supercar 3s (vs 3Rs) ? I just installed a set (275/35/18 sq), and expect much better wear compared to the 3Rs, at the expense of only a few 10ths / lap....and I paid a bit over $200 ea from TR with discounts..hard to beat that.
I ran through 3 sets of 3r and They're fast as shit but they just wear out to fast. Got 2 days on one set and 3 on the others

I switched to Nankang cr-1 and havnt looked back

i run a staggered set up though 10 / 11 (265/35/18 and 285/35/18) since the nankang run wide.

You can easily do a 10 et 33 stagger around the car with nankang 265/35/18 all the way around

How far are you taking the 3R before you retire them? Are they corded or chunked?

SC3R's are amazing tires if the proper air pressure is used and there is no comparison between them and the NT01. NT01 are not as consistent at all. Great tire but older technology. Also, the SC3R's can be run inside out for additional track days etc and are just as fast in the dry.

On my ZL1 1LE I would get over 3 full weekends of running SC3R's by flipping them around due to not running square setup

I run the Bimmerworld forged wheels 18"x10" ET33 with 12 mm spacers upfront. Front wheels rub without spacers, but I could probably run with smaller spacers around 7-8mm. But since BW recommended 12mm spacers, that's what I ended up running.

I also run Michelin takeoffs, since they are by far the best bang for the buck. I get great performance out of them the first 2-3 heat cycles, after which they drop off. But since keeping cost down is important and I still get good performance out of them even after 12-15 heat cycles, I'll end up running them for at least two weekends.

Here are a few pics and a video from Summit Point from this fall.
