G87 vs F87
S58 versus lighter weight and DCT, curious how these two will stack up. G87 has a lot to live up to and the G8x M3/M4 performance has been impressive.

Let's be real, it's probably going to be a better car overall. The new model is rarely worse. Will it be bigger and more expensive? Yes.

+: S58 so more power
-: We don't know the tune of the S58, maybe all of the power is up top and a lot of the low end is lost, that would change the character of the car for sure. +: Nicely appointed interior -: We don't know if it will have the funky gauges of the G8X. They are confusing to look at and personally, I don't see them as an upgrade over the F series. +: New exterior design -: Well, just look at it, the 230 & 240 look goofy as hell in pictures. Could be different in real life though, hard to judge. The G87 with its wide fenders could look good but we really don't know yet. There's talk of different headlights and we know that the bumpers will look different. So it's a crap shoot. +: Transmission, still has the 6 speed! Or at least we hope it still does. -: Straight automatic tranny though? No more DCT? Lame. + or -: We don't know the weight. It could weigh more or be similar. Hoping it doesn't get bloated. + or -: We don't know the brakes situation. Are they going to keep the massive BBK or are they going with the smaller front brakes and tiny single piston floating brakes out back? That is a huge deal. TLR: I have no clue.

Well, even though they don't look as good and the rear caliper is sad, by most reports the brakes are actually improved over the old blue set at least.

S58 is really a big selling point and I think there will be some improvement in the chassis. |
