Get the V2. Even on a stock turbo. The inlet from the pipe to the Turbo is larger on the V2 and fits with no issues. I'm running the V2 on a stock turbo right now.

Get the Hybrid V2 model - the V1 is about the same diameter as stock and is not considered an upgrade.

Yeh its tight, very minor superficial abrasion only in that area, it's not being eroded away that's for sure.

mine seems to have a little more between the block and the pipe (pic 1) I have 1/8 clearance. But I agree it's tight

Does anyone know if removing the bracket for the water pump along with movinf rhe water pump aside will be beneficial? Will removing the bracket make more room to access the top right DV bolt?

I have seen several YouTube videos that show just that

Doing the DV at the same time as the inlet is probably a really good idea

Its basically impossible without undoing the waterpump bracket and pushing it aside. The down side is that it actually doesn't open up that much extra space. If you have any desire at all to do the diverter valve, do it at the same time. Once you finish this you are never going to want to get in there again

Wow is it that difficult? My inlet pipe is coming and looking at some youtube videos I thought it would be a quick swap....

There is basically NO room to fit your hands in anywhere. Most of the time you are going in blind and trying to get a tool on a bolt by feel.

The biggest issue is the water pump, which you can unbolt and kind of move out of the way, but its still really in the way. I'd assume any shop doing this in a reasonable amount of time probably removes the pump and just refills afterwards.

I probably spent 10 hours alone on the DV and MST inlet. I am no beginner to working on cars and have rebuilt several JDM engines...

Also, afterwards your hands are going to look like you just slugged your way through a bare knuckle boxing tournament or got into a fight with a feral cat of some sort

Instead of going from the bottom remove the intake tube and go from the top of the engine to get to that bolt. I find you have more room that way and you're going in blind for that bolt either way. Just make sure you have a ball head hex it makes a big difference.

I just finished this install over the weekend. I removed the water pump and bracket, I could not easily access the bolt without moving the bracket. That little bit of added freedom helps save your hands.

A 5mm ball end allen is a must for removing / installing the upper right DV bolt. A straight allen will not allow enough clearance for the turbosmart DV bolt. I got the top right from the top of the engine bay and the other 2 easily from the bottom. Getting the top right bolt started is likely the hardest part.

I also put a very light film of oil on the various connection points for the MST inlet. It helped rotate the fittings around while installing. Getting the hose clamp installed on the turbo side of the inlet was a bit tricky.

thank you for this info!!! im looking forward to installing mine once cts turbo has their turbo inlets back in stock. how long did it take you to install? there was a trick i watched from bmw diy guy's youtube channel about being able to slip a regular 5 mm hex key on the top right bolt and then using a very small 5 mm ratcheting wrench to undo it. before i hunt down a 5 mm wrench, do you think this is plausible versus going in with extensions and a ball end allen?
