Yeah, someone on the M235/F30 side did try the turner stuff, and made about 380whp on a catted down pipe.
This dyno was probably done on a dynapack, which are better for tuning but read higher than dynojets. I don’t think 400whp is reasonable to expect with an OTS tune. |

Says Stage 3. Wonder what that entails from Turner. Not really familiar with it, but it usually means an upgraded turbo and HPFPR.

Turner Stage 2 - intake, Intercooler, and exhaust. 358whp STD https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1681206 Turner stage 3 with high flow catalyst 372whp STD Just one thing to note - not huge numbers, but look how the well the power band holds from 5500rpm to 6500rpm. This matters more to me than absolute big numbers and huge amounts of (useless) torque. Last edited by AmuroRay; 06-13-2020 at 06:56 PM.. |

M2 tune vs BM3 Stage 1
Spoiler, the stock M2 tune makes more power and has more high end power. https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1610213 Stock 352whp STD BM3 Stage 1 329whp STD Comparison of the M2 tune vs BM3 Stage 1 https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1616837 Stage 1 300whp M2 (BM3) 312whp Last edited by AmuroRay; 06-13-2020 at 07:37 PM.. |

I found a few more dyno - the basic trend was the standard M2 tune is almost as hot as you can go on the stock cat.
You could probably still do the same mods FBO guys do, like inlets (currently being tested by some guys on the F30post) intakes and intercooler. They are going to make the far more power and make it consistently. |

Not being argumentative; just want to learn. If I’m doing the inlet, I’m upgrading the turbo while I’m in there... |

You’re not completely wrong. There are some that make a hp, but it’s not a lot. For me, it’s more of where it makes power.
But an inlet doesn’t require you to remove a turbo, I don’t think going that far is necessary. |

Think about how any modern internal combustion engine is tuned. You've got the load targets (primary), boost target (usually secondary unless boost target is forced), and timing advance. When load/boost targets increase the car will always make more power under ideal conditions. Same with timing advance, except instead of setting it as high as possible you have to find the value that creates maximum brake torque. So yes you can "diminish" power by running too much timing advance past the MBT value at a given rpm/load but any competent tuner would be able to avoid this. Once the ambient temp goes beyond a certain point you'll definitely see consistent power lost at the top with the stock IC, but not with an upgrade one. |

I agree with you about timing being pulled, heat, supporting mods, blah blah blah, but the stage 1 OTS tunes are not that great. Quote:
