Front 12V won't turn on dashcam after awhile

If I keep my Escort plugged into the front 12V, I know it stays on for a bit after the car is off. However after some time (not sure the exact amount), the 12V won't power the Escort unless I unplug and plug it back in. Is this by design?

It's 60 seconds I believe, and yes, it's designed that way so you can still get use out of the item plugged into the socket in the time it takes to get out of the car, but not long enough for it to start draining your battery.

Ah I see. Do you know if the 2nd portion of my question is by design as well? After a certain amount of time, starting the car will not power the dashcam unless I plug it out and back in.

That idk. I've never had to unplug something and plug it back into the 12v socket to get it to work/turn on. I have a wireless phone charger/cradle plugged in there in my car and it turns on automatically every time I start the engine.

Have you considered hardwiring it into the rearview mirror? Perhaps that would solve this issue for you:

All power will be shut off after 60 seconds, so the battery is not drained accidentally.
