I can’t.
I am over the top OCD, I took off the diffuser, and tips, cleaned and prepped everything. The rattle can worked great.

Went for it earlier this week. Relatively easy and very pleased with the results. Thanks to everyone here who has led the charge and encouraged the rest of us to do it.

Video if you have 8 minutes to kill:

How much is to get Cerakote applied for those who have done it.

The closest location to me in GTA is asking CAD $300.

I *really* wanted to cerakote, but dropping the bizzaroland exhaust that BMW came up with seems pretty much too hard for the payoff.

Sounds like everyone has your painted exhaust holding up great.....

Anyone here track your M2C with painted exhaust? Does the spray paint still able to hold up with the even higher heat? Thanks

I painted my M2C’s muffler in September with VHT and did three track days before winter. VHT held up pretty good and looked perfect after the track days. The problem started when it started to snow. I daily my car and the salt covered roads took a toll on the painted muffler. The paint looked like it’s oxidising/rusting and you can imagine that it looks even worse than stock now. I had some free time today so I sanded the muffler. Once the weather gets better I will take the muffler off and sand, prime and repaint it. This time I’ll use rustoleum hight heat paint. Apparently it holds up much better.

Thanks!! It’s good to know that “snow/salt” is actually what might cause issues with paints.... I daily mine as well

One bit of advice for you guys that have half a brain. If you can SMELL paint, then you will be able to see/feel overspray on your car.

EASY SOLUTION: wax the entire car before you start the process in the video, and I mean the ENTIRE car, windows included, and leave the wax on. After you are done spraying and can NOT smell any paint at all, then remove the wax.

You're welcome.

Thanks-- ordered instead of the VHT.

I don't want to do this more than once.

Same here. Don’t wanna do this more than once. Even once a year is too much. I likely will have to give up on this painting idea

Cool. Post some pics when ur done painting the muffler and update the forum after a few months.
I didn’t want to paint it again either. I actually took it off and primed it and painted and let it cure as per the instructions. I wasted a whole day on this, LOL. Hopefully Rust-oleum would do better.

Well you can always get it powder coated. It’s more expensive but it’s much more reliable.

Any updates on how this is holding up in a daily environment?

Just got my cans of Rust-Oleum high-temp primer and paint in the mail today.

Honestly-- if the exhaust was cut somewhere reasonable (like pretty much any other exhaust in the world!) I'd high-temp cerakote it. But with the 2 linear miles of tubing attached, that would be a big job.

So-- for those who've painted-- holding up fine? Or needing a retouch?

TIA--

R.

Mines good after 9 months and a few thousand miles.

Pretty much all modern cars factory exhausts are single piece these days. Why would they add an extra assembly stage and costly joint (ie failure point) if they don't need to?

Painting the lower hung exhaust.

I am going to paint black my M2C lower hung like a bull muffler. Did everyone just tape off the pipes and surrounding areas and do it on the car??

I masked off the underside and bagged and taped the tips. A lot of over spray builds ups as you spray and i didn't get good coverage above the tips but overall an OK job.

In the future, I may take it off the hangers and do a better job but not sure if it's worth dropping the entire thing and doing it right.

Rubber gloves over the tips works perfectly. I cut up some trash bags and taped everything off. I was able to get above the tips well and the full underside. Looks a lot better. Good luck!

I used the glove over the tips method and it worked perfectly.
