So while no soda can sound I did have some odd jerking with my MY 16 DCT. It was like it was hunting for a gear at low speed. I had slowed to a stop sign in my hospital parking lot and went to accelerate and it was like it jerked/lurched a couple times then no problem. Has happened on one other occasion. Thoughts?

Recalls are up dramatically from all manufacturers, the liability that was created by the GM Cobalt ignition debacle and Takata Airbag inflator issue has resulted in manufactures initiating recalls very quickly and very cautiously. The stakes are just too high for them to take a chance to we will continue to see recalls on all new cars as a fairly routine thing. I actually see this as a good thing, issues like the HPFP that BMW dragged their feet on will get resolved immediately in the current climate which will result in safer and more reliable cars for the consumer. It would be great if every car and component was perfect from the factory but that is not possible. Having manufacturers on the hook for the safety of their cars is a good thing.

I'm assuming the OE bolts are one-time use, "stretch bolts". Their repair procedure didn't identify them as such, and diff replacements were made reusing the original bolts.
While I'd certainly get the car in for a free replacement, it's not likely to be a big deal. You can't count how many times people reuse stretch bolts without realizing it. I don't think you'll see anyone's diff dropping out the bottom of their car. If you're worried about it, get under there with a wrench and make sure they're torqued down every week or so until you get them replaced.

This is a different bolt set than the ones they changed out during the diff repair. Both sets should have been changed but BMW only had one done. That is how it was explained to me by my guys, and I was there to see the repair done, so I know they used new bolts on mine. |

Nothing here either I know my service and sales guys really well also and they looked into it and as of now nothing and I think mine was an April/May build if I remember correctly and obviously an MY16. They said maybe in the upcoming days I'll get a letter or they'll get a notice and let me know.
They also told me that this "recall issue" is nothing to worry about even if my car is affected by it and not to worry and if anything pops up on their end they'll let me know asap. Obviously they're just trying to make me feel safe about it but still kind of scary to know that all 2016 models are affected according to this forum and that it's a pretty serious issue if affected and still nothing. Hope it's resolved sooner than later. Been driving with extreme caution since seeing this post. Last thing I need is to lose complete control driving on the highway. |

Just thinking out loud, they call them "subframe bolts". That's either the 4 bolts holding the subframe to the unibody, or the bolts holding the diff to the subframe, I'd assume anyway. What other "subframe bolts" are there? Both of those would be removed when replacing the diff (assuming they dropped the subframe to remove the diff).

Spoke with my dealer yesterday as my Feb 16 build car is booked in for diff replacement on Thursday. Mentioned this recall to him. He checked my vehicle on the system and there was no mention of this recall.

So seeing this recall acknowledges that a sound is being omitted from the rear of the car what do you think the chances are that this is the 'soda can crunch' noise a lot of us are experiencing?

Ok... so I got mine 06/21/2014 and I have 98.000 km on it at the moment.
Either I am lucky and my car doesn't have the problem or I am a real lucky bastard that the car didn't fall apart so far |

Typically issues get ironed out as cars get further in the production cycle. Wonder what's up with their quality control? This makes me happy I have a MY2015 and purchased early on...
