It'll most likely be M3/4 money I would think.

If the RS3 is going to compete against the M2 and CLA45, I'd expect a bit of a premium for a TT. Quote:
That's why I have no interest in anything other than RWD and 6MT. No snow or significant traffic

Good point, but you might get more bang for your buck (BHP, amenities) by going with the Audi.
Subjectively speaking, it might look better as well. You have to get into Cayman GTS land to get all of the good looking kit, unfortunately.

Which would be ok for an M2 as well.
I don't think I should pay less for an M2 just because the number is lower - the price should be consummate with the performance and other positive attributes offered by the car. For example, the M2, M3, and M4 could all be slotted within a few grand of each other, and be specced out accordingly. M2: track junkies/lightness/less options M3: 4 doors, more practicality, still good on track M4: more luxury, elegance, etc. All in the same general price range, all with the same engine - why not?

Can't say anything about US prices (they are usually lower), but here are some german prices (incl. 19% VAT) for comparison:
- The M235i starts at €44,750 - The old RS3 started at €49,900 back in 2011 - The A45 starts at €50,150 - The 1M started at €50,500 back in 2011 - The RS3 starts at €52,700 - Autobild expects the M2 to start at around €54,000 - The old TT-RS started at €56,750 back in 2012 - The Cayman S starts at €64,100 - The M4 starts at €72,500 So expect the new TT-RS to start at around €60K – or in other words: a few thousand bucks more expensive than the M2, but still a lot cheaper than an M4. BTW: Most of the 200+ HP hot hatches (Golf GTI etc.) start below 30K – no wonder why we Europeans love them so much. They are hard to beat in terms of price/performance. But since the TT-RS is based on the same platform as the Mk.7 Golf, Audi will have to put a lot of effort into the car to make it worth that much more money. However, the car will almost certainly have a substantial weight advantage compared to the M2. The F20/21/22 on the other hand, are based on the same platform as the F30 and the M2 in particular is expected to share quite a few components with the M4. It will almost certainly be quite a bit heavier, given the slightly larger dimensions and being based on the larger platform. On the other hand, that platform was built for these kind of cars, and being able to use existing M3/M4 parts certainly won't hurt. This will be an interesting year for performance cars in the sub-M4 price range. |

M2 should cover also the absence of Z4M.
How good it will be on track, it remains to be seen! Cayman S was faster than M4 on a certain track, so BMW should play hard with the new M model! |
