It crossed my mind to put down a deposit on a Cayman GT4 a while ago.

One reason I didn't was because for some reason I associate Porsche with Volkswagen. Close to ten years ago I recall just minding my own business on my motorcycle and a Volkswagen tried to swerve into me. Drivers wanted(sarcasm). If I had more time I should have followed that witch home but the funny thing is there is a good chance if the cops showed up, I'd get the worst of it as I wasn't as good looking as her.

It would indicate a mildly autistic purchase if I did it. But I dunno, sometimes there is a demand to treat it.

Here in Canada, dealerships typically don't charge as much, if at all, any premium on GT4-esque type vehicles. A couple guys who put a deposit down early appear to want to make several thousand dollars selling online locally.

Would it make me weird or be a bad habit if I made a bit of cash every year jumping on these opportunities?

As of right now (without test driving the M2 or the new turbo Cayman), I'd put it at:

C7 Corvette - 60%
M2 - 25%
CPO Cayman S - 10%
CPO 997.2 - 5%

But that could change if I end up really liking the way the M2 drives -- or if Porsche manages to either improve the performance (especially the low-end torque) of the base Cayman and/or reduce the price of the Cayman S.
Could be interesting with the release of the 981.2 and the rumored turbo flat 4 - but there are also rumors Porsche will come out with a "717" car that would compete more in the 45k range...will be fun to watch.

I also agree about the test drive - means so much more to me now than it did in the past...I think I just know what I like better now. You are looking for certain attributes to present themselves in the test drive, and they're either there or they aren't. You figure out the finances afterwards.

I don't know my Porsches that well, but it i believe I just read that the 718 is the new turbo 4.

Yes 718 Boxster and Cayman. These cars will finally be the same aside from the roof.
