not by accident either.

In Germany I don't think this will be the case. BMW clear intentions is to pushed this into the market to gather some future customers for M3, M4, M5 and M6 owner.

Alternatives: I'm no Audi guy but the coming up TTRS will be more than crazy from what is rumored.

Alternative is a 2014 981 Cayman S. Probably few $$ (2-5K) more expensive than an M2 here in Canada. The issue will be finding one with the appropriate options.

I found a 2014 981s Caymas with navigation - heated seats - dual climate - PSE - 14 way adjustable with 6k mikes for about 59k

I'm so tempted to buy it instead of waiting for an M2 (i'm number 4). What a tough choice.

Tough choice indeed, I would say wait until you see the M2 live and the official reviews in February.
For me PASM would be a must in a 981s make sure you don't need this option if you decide to pull the trigger.
Also, new Caymans (2017 model) will have a 4cyl turbo so not sure what would that do to the resale value of the 981s.

It is definitely a hard decision as I have driven the boxster S for a weekend and loved it. And i'm just waiting for the M2 to finally arrive. I think i'm tempted to actually fly to Detroit and see this car in person.

That being said, i don't think i'll ever find a deal like this for the Cayman - i don't think it has PASM. I really wanted the performance exhaust, i don't get how there are so many Caymans/boxsters without this option. It makes the car sound amazing.

I don't know hwo the 4cyl turbo will be like, but this will then this could be the last 6cyl NA for cayman S (possibly the GT4 keeping the same engine)

I just backed out on my M2 deposit and got a great deal on a leftover 2015 Cayman. It's white 6spd manual, with Sport Suspension, Sport Seats, and Sports Exhaust. It's definitely down on power, but damn it drives and sounds like a dream. Maybe I'll get an M2 once I trade in this car.

Can't argue with that decision my man - good for you. It's a great car.

I will still be interested in the M2 as well, but now I won't be in the position to make a crazy decision...because I already did that song and dance.

Let me throw my $.02 in here - I have a 981 CS with the standard suspension. No PASM and no X73. You can't upgrade to PASM after the fact (at least I don't think anyone has yet, due to the cost), but an upgrade to the X73 is about ~3K (parts $1500, labor $1000+).

I really like the stock suspension, but there are times that I do wish it was just a bit more stiff. I have been considering the X73 retrofit, but am afraid of overshooting and ending up with a car that's too uncomfortable with DD duties - which mine definitely has.

PASM is nice because it gives you choices and is permanently 10 MM lower than stock. The X73 gives you a 20 MM lower than stock stance (it looks great) and supposedly has more "feel" than the PASM. SunCoast Porsche in Florida is the dealer to get it from - best prices around...

My point being that all three choices are great, and even if the car has the stock setup, there are factory options available to you.

Just based on how pleasantly surprised / impressed I was with my recent TTS test drive, the RS version is going to be a BEAST. I've also driven the S3 and RS3 (last time I was in Sweden) and the RS3 was a big step up.

There's a guy in my neighborhood that has the previous generation TT-RS and I really like how it looks. Never heard him get on it or been able to go on a drive, but the overall shape and whatnot is really nice.

The TT-RS had originally been on my list of possibilities, but it was not easy to find one to drive. After my 18 month snafu with the 235, I just won't do that again - I am going to have to drive it before I buy it.

I agree with chmura, I am sure that when you start to get to more rural areas there will be something left....and it feels like some M2 fans are starting to shift interest anyway....

Yeah it makes me nervous too, but unfortunately for some of the stuff we're talking about it's either take a bit of a chance or wait a LONG time. It's not like we fly all over the world to test drive cars like crazy people. Err, wait, some of us do! One thing that makes it slightly less stressful is that everything we are talking about is really, really nice stuff. Could one be a bit better than the other? Sure. But none of them are going to be crap.

I guess I put my faith in comparisons I can make. Like TTS better than M235, so not having driven either I'd bet I'd like TTRS better than M2. Not always the case but lacking any better options can always try and drive the closest like for like comps and make a call. I wouldn't drive a TTS against an M2 (assuming you could) and decide TTRS vs M2 for instance. Would still go back to TTS vs M235.

Depends on your market
Bay area almost impossible to get an f80 allocation and m4s are a dime a dozen
Might still be easier to get an M2

There are plenty of people that cannot stand waiting and will get a Cayman or mustang GT 350 or M3/M4 and will fall off the list, but it's fairly important to be on a list.

Most dealers that didn't have a buyer in line ordered the 1M loaded in the Valencia orange launch color.

For the M2 I bet the most common dealer order package is LBB-DCT.
