I am sure the answer is buried within the thread here, forgive my laziness.
The BMW 1M got a V8 engine... ...oh, wait, maybe that was just a typo.

I think that maybe the spec in Australia.. Each region maybe different but we may have to wait until it's released to be confirmed for UK

To be honest it wouldn't bother me personally as I'm after one with a DCT anyway. Daily drive with a bit of town driving that does my head in.

Yep, Aus M cars are all standard with DCT (auto in M5s) inclusioned, a manual is a “no cost option” and is rare, on the 3/4 at least. The 2/3/4 M cars are our only manual optionable cars in the ///M suite.

That's funny because I just saw those wheels at my dealer yesterday also -- i had to check your pic twice to make sure it wasn't the same dealer! Anyway, my dealer was selling them at cost, so maybe they're being discontinued or something. I didn't ask about 'em so I have no idea.

Tracking the weight....

https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/m-mo...fications.html

(NOTE THAT THE M2 FIGURES FOR 6MT and DCT ARE ACTUALLY REVERSED ON THE SITE )

US SPEC M2 CURB WEIGHT – AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (lbs) - 3505

US SPEC M2 CURB WEIGHT – MANUAL TRANSMISSION (lbs) - 3450

https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/m-mo...fications.html

US SPEC M4 CURB WEIGHT – AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (lbs) - 3620

US SPEC M4 CURB WEIGHT – MANUAL TRANSMISSION (lbs) - 3565

M2 COMP 6MT - 3450 + 121 ( 55kg at 1kg = 2.2 lbs) = 3571
M2 COMP DCT - 3505 + 121 ( 55kg at 1kg = 2.2 lbs ) = 3626

looks to me like any way you slice it... the new M2 COMP has ballooned up to 3600 lbs

That is a FAR CRY from the ALLEGED EURO SPEC Weight of 3296 (1495 kg) which I have never believed is an M2 weight but is certainly the 1M weight.

Unbelievable that it actually weighs more than an M4.That sucks and probably means that it won’t feel nearly as nimble as the current M2.The M4 is a much larger car but I guess the aluminium hood, carbon fiber driveshaft, roof and trunk lid is the reason that the larger car with the same engine weighs less than the M2 Competition.

Fat M2 Competition

So my dreams of a more powerful and LIGHTER M2 are fading:

If there's a potential downside to the M2 Competition, it's the fact that the coupe weighs more than the existing version. Revisions to the cooling system for the more powerful engine reportedly causes the weight to increase by 121 pounds (55 kilograms). Since the upgraded powerplant produces 39 hp (28 kW) and 62 lb-ft (84 Nm) more than the stock example, the performance should still improve, despite the additional pounds.

I've met them, and unfortunately that's exactly what the BMW M division guys say.

As some have said before, if that 121lbs weight gain is all in the front (which I am sure it is since that’s where the changes are) the weight distribution is further tilted forward....hello understeer

And April 16, 2016 was the launch date for presenting the all-new M2 inside BMW showrooms:
