I recommend buying a beater and storing the M2C. The M2C is a special car and it remains to be seen whether the G87 will surpass the sheer driving pleasure of the F87.

However, if you decide to sell your M2C, I'm ready to buy it now if the price is right.

Like you i drove a e46 m3 in winter
Never ever, rust, stone chip, salt and calcium, getting stuck 3-4 times per winter...

No way

I store my m2c in the garage during winter and i just drive a Subaru Impreza 2010, awd and cost me 5000$. For this price it's a no brainer i don't want to ruin my m2c in the winter

Have you seen the bew g80 m3 in person, in pictures i was like ishhhh, in person the car us really beautiful.

M2c + winter beater is my vote

I was also considering long term rentals which could be an option if it's only for one winter.
If you plan to keep it long term I would prob store it for the winter.

Yep, that's why I don't want to do it to this car. Thank you to everyone's feedback, I'm starting to look at some lease deals.

Where do you usually look into for long-term rentals?

I actually saw some really good lease deals that I think I might go with. There's some dealerships offering a Prius Prime for $189 a month / $0 down.

Kia Forte as someone else mentioned also roughly $179 but has $2k down or so.

Thinking back, having owned BMWs for 20 years.
My first winter beater was a Neon R/T. A fun little car but it sat in the garage 350 days of the year. Not too many bad weather days in Charlotte, even back then. A guy thought I was crazy using it to pick up pine needle bales. I later did spend an hour cleaning out the trunk....

I then traded for an '06 X3. Useful for errands throughout the year, and allowed me to go for low mileage leases on the good car.

Now my winter beater is an X3M It saw 15 minutes of snow last winter, and that was on a Christmas trip to WV. But its a great daily, and my M2C is a low mileage weekend car.

But I took a look and you can find 2nd gen X3s for ~ $30k, even the 35i. I have a lot of friends with them.

look into Care By Volvo. Its a 24 month lease, but you can break it after 4 months with no penalties. Much cheaper than a questionable beater. I have clients do this all the time while they wait for their "cool" car to get built.

I'd consider Mazda also. Proly the nicest appliance brand and now #1 for reliability. Put snows on it and you are done.

I've got a 2017 Elantra Sport - it's a manual, peppy with 200hp, decent torque from a smooth untaxed turbo engine, even tracked it a couple times. Small sedan but with a really large boot for its class.

Hyundai are doing 0 everything on leases and a '21 Elantra N Line (not to be confused with the N) would be a good shout, if you were thinking about leasing something in the $250 or less category.

+1

Rented a Mazda 3 recently and was super impressed with how fun it was to drive between brakes, suspension, and steering. No balls, but it's a snow beater anyways.

I very rarely keep cars for more than a couple years, but my gut tells me I'd seriously regret selling the M2C. History will be kind to it.

I know it's been "beaten" to death in this thread but there are many reasonable cars to get on the cheap and save the M2C. Honestly for me driving a car like the M2 in the winter has little to do with ability (winter tires do wonders) but rather not wanting to ruin the car. Around here snow has little to do with it — it's the salt that absolutely destroys cars.

Pick up a used Mini AWD stick shift for $5k and have lots of fun in the crappy weather and save the M2C from corrosion and cancer (rust).

Yep, that is exactly my reason as well. It's not the ability, but don't want to put the m2 through these winters.
