Being charged for theft deterrent device?

Hey guys,

I've been going back and forth with this dealer and he sent me a BOS (rough estimate) and I noticed they added a charge for theft deterrent device. Are they trying to screw me here?

The car has GPS recovery built in. Absolutely refuse to pay for that worthless garbage.

Sounds more like a dealer theft device. Did they mislabel it??

It's an out-of-state used car dealer 😕. I've read that some dealers claim it's "mandatory"? Not sure if that's true or not (haven't confronted the sales rep about the charge yet).

As mentioned the car has GPS and an alarm. So no need for any aftermarket devices.

I had a dealer try and sell me this bogus service where they put stickers on every panel like BMW use to w/the VIN stickers. Could it be something like that?

I still need this tracking device company for more than a decade to detect my car when 'stolen' for my car insurance company. And pay less if this thing is fitted.

They should give you the discount without it - just show them that the car is capable of tracking itself and reporting its position to the BMW mothership if stolen. Just has to be enabled in iDrive (probably on by default). The device is completely redundant and exists ONE purpose only - for the dealer to make a fat profit (they probably pay 25% of what they sell it for). Don't let them rip you off.
