Great idea! That's what I did. The RS3 is the daily (and also quite a bit faster than my M2), the M2 is the weekend/garage queen

The car and driver article is clickbaity and basically meaningless. I don’t think they tested the cars on the same day and the difference was like 0.1 second.
I’d also argue that a ton of people switch from manual to automatic and never go back, they just never brag about it because they’d likely be made fun of by anyone who heard them. But obviously people as a whole prefer autos. But also manuals are more fun for me and that’s what I personally will own and drive ‘till the day I die. |

For racing or heavy track work, DCT is expensive compared to 6MT
The maintenance schedule of the F82 GT4 requires the DCT to be replaced every 30,000 km at a cost of well...14,700 € Otherwise it's just matter of personal preference. Like if you would prefer a yellow Ferrari or a red one https://www.bmw-motorsport.com/conte...8005604328.pdf |

I've got two manuals and a DCT. The manuals suit being manual and the DCT suits being DCT. Love them all. I won't ever own an auto though. |

30,000 km on a racing car is extremely durable. I wonder how many clutches and synchro rebuilds would be needed on a MT over that distance? More than €15k worth for absolute sure. |

Unless the GS6-45BZ is made of glass (which itself has proven that it is not with units on tuned cars handling something like 700-800 hp, hardly anyone has reported that their 6MT went busted because of a track or a drag event), through deductive reasoning I have to say it is cheaper in the long run to go for the 6MT route unless the driver money shift.... https://www.bmwautoparts.net/en/cata...3_1121/0/52062 Last edited by Karmic Man; 11-15-2021 at 05:01 AM.. |

It depends completely on the car and use case for me. Some cars I would only want with a manual, some only a dual clutch. Some cars I'd switch which gearbox I want based on the use for the car.
I would not ever buy a manual GT3 RS, but I only want my M2 as a manual. I had a TTRS that was manual but I would've liked the car better with a dual clutch. It still wouldn't be a keeper, but I'd have kept it longer. I like a dual clutch on track and a manual for daily driving. I'd like a dual clutch or even auto for touring across Europe, my 6MT M2 was a bit buzzy for sustained higher speeds on the last trip. |

I have seen several reports on this forum of people killing transmissions, some on track. Sometimes they get lucky and accidentally UPshift, which simply kills the corner exit. I DK which is more reliable over the long term for simple wear, but the potential for damage to clutch or trans from mis-use is a big vulnerability. That's why the term 'money shift' is such a well-known phrase. But I don't think anybody picks a transmission just on the basis of longevity or long term cost.

Same. I find the shift changes are very quick (I put it on 3 bars) and really suits track use. One thing I would change (at least for me) is to have larger paddles. I sort of miss grabbing them sometimes or catch part of them on shift changes (only a few times). I guess I could install an aftermarket paddle that is larger or longer. |

Sport+ is too twitchy for me, so Sport works best for street driving with 3 bar tranny

I bought the 6MT for the engagement and the fun of driving it. If I intended to use the car for competitive purposes or had to deal with traffic, I would have gone DCT for sure. We are lucky to have options! We won't in the not too distant future.

I have this mental thing where I am always trying to save sport + and 3 bars drivelogic for the track, and then only use Sport and 2 bars drivelogic for city driving. 3 bar drivelogic gives you a good punch in the back though when you shift on harder acceleration I find during City driving. On the track for some reason I dont notice it as much... |

I 2nd Karmic Man's points. I tried a DCT in my 2011 EVO X. It was a Getrag unit and I ran lots of power thru it. When it started to act up I found there were only 3 shops in the US at that time that could do a rebuild properly. I had it rebuilt twice and it never was a 100% after either work was done. Nope, no more DCT's for this guy. I was out $9-10K on those rebuilds and that's not including the Dodson Clutch packs which are $'s as well. This was a German manufactured DCT...(the M2's is also a Getrag unit) Just saying.... DCT's are awesome, but if anything goes wrong out of warranty its a Shi,,,,,t load more money than replacing a clutch. Thats even assuming there are shops in the US that will crack open a unit and actually refurbish it properly My $0.02 HAZMAT
