Always Confirm Custom Parts From BMW
So, this post will be a combination of comment and request for input...
When I placed the order for my 2021 M2 Competition, I also ordered a number of parts - "to be installed at the port" in Ventura, CA. When I originally made this request, I did so with the BMW ordering guide. So, you would think it would be fairly straightforward. My dealership assigned my order to an "aftersales customer support specialist" whom I was told was "expert" in M Motorsport parts. No disrespect, but, um... no. Within two email exchanges, it appeared that I knew much more than my ACSS person - and I don't claim to know much at all! I relied on a combination of the BMW parts guide, the BMW M motorsport website (awful), IND distribution, YouTube, and certainly not least of all - Bimmerpost. First of all, what's the point of these parts? For me, it's kind of like building anything creative that is either something we personally enjoy, or a reflection of who we are, right? It's like dressing well, or kitting out a mountain bike, or furnishing a home. The point here is this isn't about making a racing car. No. That's a different sort of build... So, nothing much took place while the car was built, shipped to the port, loaded on the RORO and in transit. Today, we're three days from arrival at the port, and while I've staying in touch with my dealer management, and with the ACSS assigned to the "deal," there wasn't much to discuss, pending the ship getting close to the port. I sent an email asking for a confirmation of the parts ordered, and what I got back was unrelated to what I ordered - I was told some parts were not compatible with my VIN, others no longer made, and others only available via the dealership (which means adding labor to the cost). My concern was that I provided everything in writing - a solid paper trail, but regardless, what had been scheduled for the vehicle was not what I requested. I'm not trying to throw the dealer under the semi-truck, but I am interested in getting the parts I'd like put in place properly. This is what I requested: 0ZGX - Performance Drive Analyzer 0Z09 - Carbon Fiber Rear Spoiler OZ18 - Carbon Fiber interior trim 0Z2Q - Carbon Fiber & Alcantara trim OZ4G - Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser OZ6M - Carbon Fiber Exhaust Tips (for the stock exhaust) OZ02 - CF Side Skirt Winglets OZ21 - Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps 0ZP7 - Carbon Fiber Front Splitter 0ZW1 - Carbon Fiber Side Gills SO... Not to create too many lists - the following are the differences reported: Z2F - BMW M Perf Steering Wheel (port) 0ZGX - Performance Drive Analyzer (not available for my VIN) OZ18 - Carbon Fiber interior trim (not available for my VIN) OZ21 - Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps (dealer only) OZ02 - CF Side Skirt Winglets (not available for my VIN) I am going to try and sort this out with the dealer, and it should be noted one key reason is that I'd like to see the port installed parts to show up on the Monroney Window Sticker (it's not about building the parts into the deal). The other element is that it would be nice to collect the car looking pretty unique and "individual." Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions about any of the above? Any other suggestions that I should consider (I'm going to stick with stock suspension for now, and I will either get 763M wheels or a close alternative)? Thanks for reading!!!

CF mirror caps are absolutely NOT a dealer-only item - they can be port-installed FOR SURE. Somebody is blowing smoke up your skirt.
When I ordered my car, I added the CF rear spoiler (M Performance, not the CS version), and was going to add the mirror caps until I saw the price. A few days later, before my car had flipped status, I added the CF rear diffuser. Both port-installed and on my Monroney, as the mirror caps would have been too. Not sure what else on your list might not be available for the M2c, if anything. When you ordered your car, did they not give you a printout showing what you'd ordered, and have you sign it to confirm the order? This is what mine looked like, CF spoiler at the bottom, diffuser not added till a few days later.. ... and the Monroney: Hopefully all turns out well for you. Good luck!

I've arranged this afternoon to meet with the GSM and my SA (senior fleet person, whom I've known for years) to work it out on Tuesday. Because I'm a long time client, I haven't had to sign anything, no deposit, etc. For the most part, it's a privilege. On occasion, as we're all reading here, some documentation would have eliminated some possible confusion. I'll keep everyone up to date! David

Make your own Monroney sticker.
https://futureclassic.us/products/fu...window-sticker Also a monkey could install the mirror caps in about 15 minutes. |

So, I've been investigating a new type of wheel (to me) called a Rotary Forged wheel. This is pretty exclusive to TSW, which was a fairly middle of the road manufacturer in years past, but has stepped up their game more recently.
I posted my query in the Wheels section: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7#post27771487

2021 M2competition headed to my dealer
So, a car ordered near the end of winter has been built, shipped, and once at the Ventura VPC, had some CF parts installed. The car has now been released to the shipper, and it should arrive at my dealer within a week or so.
Unfortunately, some of the CF parts I requested are not (as I'm told) available at the VPC, so the dealer will need to install them (ordered via the parts department). Overall, this isn't too big of a deal - dealer installed parts won't show up on the window sticker, and I need to pay (discounted) labor costs, which is included when parts are installed at the port. For anyone thinking about ordering a car that not only has custom components (even paint), not to mention parts to be installed at the local port nearest your dealer, don't stop tracking the process. I started out with a simple list of parts that I wanted added to the car. It should have been simple enough. I've been a customer of this dealership for decades, and have never had an issue before, but this time... Chaos. The after-sales parts advocate is not an expert. In anything. Knows the job per se, what to ask for, and how to use the parts computer. But, when it comes to knowing how parts interact with a specific VIN (even more specific than just the model), it was a mess. No replies to email messages for a week or more at a time, then apologies and feedback that didn't match what I was checking on (such as "does the port have these parts on hand?"). I wasn't too concerned until the RORO arrived in Ventura, and at that point, I had to meet with a "group" of people at the dealership to discuss how this would be resolved - and there was back and forth - not between me and anyone, but between the parts and sales folks. Without question, it was frustrating, but now that it's in the rear view, it was also a bit comical. So, keep track of your custom order. Maintain a paper trail, so if things go sideways, you can point at exactly what transpired, not what someone's memory of a conversation was (even yours). And, in the end, you have to be a bit flexible. In my case, the starting point for flexibility was, "sorry, but the port doesn't have part A, B, and D." If I hadn't pursued, "well, can you order them through parts and install them here?" that would have been the end of it. Looking forward to seeing my AP M2Comp in a week to ten days. In the end, it's just metal and for fun and giggles. Not worth having a TIA over.
