It's no secret that I prefer the M2C, I own one. In defense of the N55 in the OGM2, it does have some beefed up parts compared to the garden variety N55.

I totally get where you're coming from in terms of the N55 being tried and true and having its kinks worked out. That's a good argument. My opposing argument would be that when worrying about long term durability, i'd rather have the least powerful variant of an engine than the most powerful variant of it. The margins of error got substantially smaller when BMW stuck the N55 in the M2 (which, admittedly BMW realized and tried to address with beefier internals.) Honestly, so far it doesn't really look like either of us are wrong. The S55 has been showing signs of being a pretty durable engine and the OG M2's have a reputation as being some of the more reliable M cars for their age. I have to side eye your other argument about the M2C being a worse daily though. You may be right, but that's not how any of us spending 50k-60K on a 2 door coupe make our car buying decisions. A Camry is, factually speaking a far better daily driver than either car. It does that job objectively better in the same way an M2 does that job better than an M2C. But tell me honestly, would you be happier overall if you were driving a Camry every day? A car can paradoxically be a "better daily driver" while being a less happy place to spend that time every day. Because at the end of the day, that's ultimately all we want from these cars beyond transportation: To generate the most happiness and the least unhappiness when we are using them. It doesn't matter if a car has a bunch of stuff we don't need because that stuff makes us happy, even when we're not taking advantage of it. That said, I am 100 percent biased towards the Comp because I own one and somewhere in the back of my mind I want to justify that purchase to myself and to any person who is unlucky enough to be in my way when start going off like an insufferable d-bag about how cool my car is. |

I have owned both cars ('17 OG M2 and currently a '19 M2C) - I have never once though either was better or worse while daily driving them.
They are both crazy fast in daily traffic. Can we not be happy to just have one of these fine cars?!

I live in a beautiful "flyover state". You live in a shithole. Am I doing it right?
