Looking closer at the specs, I agree with this assessment. The PA4 appears to run MUCH wider.

Found 18 inch wheels:
Wheels: Style 640M - Front: 8.5Jx18 ET27, Rear: 9Jx18 ET29
Tires: Continental Winter Contact TS830P - Front/Rear: 255/40R18 99V XL

Was reading that the TS830Ps aren't the best and started looking at other winter tires. Found the Blizzak WS90s.

What sizes to get the WS90s in? I was thinking copying BMWs factory setup on the 640Ms for the M2... 235/40 in the front, 255/35 in the rear. The only difference is they use Pilot Alpins. Wondering if I'll have any rubbing issues or something if the Blizzaks are bigger? I dunno.

WS90 is a heavy duty snow tire and will be terrible in anything but snow. Would reconsider unless you regularly drive through storms.

I've got Blizzaks WS90s on mine, and they aren't as bad as I thought they'd be. The road noise bothers me more than any handling deficiency. Steering still feels pretty direct, their just soft. But I can certainly understand why performance winters would be preferred.

I also figure that they will make my PS4S feel 10x better when I get them back on for summer….and make me appreciate the Michelins even more than when I first got them. So at least I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Good to know. I can certainly understand why you'd go for them in CO, too.

Got 18 inch wheels with BMW recommended Pilot Alpin PA4. 255/35r18 rear, 235/40r18 front. Amazing compared to the TS830Ps that were on it before. TS830P would skip/lose grip if you really pressed throttle all the way down. PA4 won't lose grip or have any issues at full throttle in any gear. Very impressive. They feel very similar to summer tires.

I also used them in snow. On a day it snowed like 8-10 inches. They did good as long as you take it slow and don't stop in a dumb spot. Rear came out a couple times. Was running traction mode. Made me shit myself but I just countersteered to correct it

Great tires though

Just put a set of pa4's on my 437m's and concur with what others have said. They are terrific and you easily forget that you're on winters. I think the ride quality is a bit more supple than the pilot super sports.

I have a set of 19" 641M winter wheels on mine. Bought them from a forum member listing in the classifieds. They're from an M3. The previous owner got them from ShopBMWUSA.com with the tires. Wheel sizes:

Front: 8.5Jx19
Rear: 9Jx19

They have a Continental TS830P square setup with 255/35-19. No issues with rubbing and they fit the rims fine.

The ShopBMWUSA.com website lists the 641M wheels with 255/35-19 tires for the M3 but lists 235/35-19 for the M2. Same rim sizes for both cars. If the tires last long enough for replacement, I'll probably put the recommended 235 width tires on.

I got them for the cold weather rather than snow, but I did drive once in about an inch and they were okay.

As others have pointed out, the dry traction of the TS830Ps in cold weather cannot handle the car's power, and the rears will spin under full acceleration in 1st or 2nd gear.

I went with Continental Viking tires and they are just fine in the dry while being more serious for snow. PA4s are fine if you dont get serious snow or don’t drive often. I live in the NE and drive every day snow, sleet, rain and I can’t chance it with a “sport” winter tire. I had Nokians prior and they were unbelievable in the snow but really bad in the dry.

This assessment is spot on.

Have PA4s in stock size on M2C and they are great in the cold/dry.

I have Hakkas on the 128 and they are the best in snow, awful when dry.
