High pitch hum in 2017 M2
Hi,
I have a 2017 M2 that has barely 900 miles on it. I've noticed a high pitch hum from the speakers regardless of whether the radio is on or not. I'm assuming this may have something to do with the ASD .This sound reminds me of the hay days when I installed my stereo without good wiring. My question is , is it even worth my time to talk to the service advisor about this? Has anyone had this problem and has there been any luck to resolve it? I'm assuming the only to cure this is to turn off the ASD? Thanks in advance. E |

Give this a try - I identified the problem as potentially coming from the ASD because I could toggle the sound on and off by flipping the car between sport and comfort respectively. Please let me know how you go!

That hiss/whine is definitely not normal, heard people have had amps go out on them, wonder if this is a sign, but they also mention different types of symptoms.
Sounds like the tone from "this is the Emergency Broadcast System, this is only a test"

My hum is definitely there while driving (sometimes I can hear it too, through the road noise). What drives me nuts is that it persists even when I'm stopped at a red light (only when I'm in the Sports or Sports+ mode though... lol) I have no clue what's going on, I'm going into BMW next week, hope they figure it out.

My problem or Hammer's problem?
Because I drove two other demo M2s with a tech and those cars didn't have the issue I've recorded in my video.

Hi friends - Just pinging this thread to see if anyone has had any success. I noticed this noise shortly after I purchased my CPO 2018 M2. I upgraded the stereo the Integral Audio system so wasn't sure if it was the aftermarket gear or not. I have tested this thing with and without ASD delete harness, OEM vs. aftermarket amp, and even went as far as disconnecting the amp wires themselves thinking there was a ground issue...the high pitch hum/whine is still there. I think I have isolated it to the passenger side tweeter or somewhere in that vicinity. Weird thing is, even without the amp I hear the whine. Without the OEM amp connected, its much milder, which is strange...where is the signal coming from without an amp?
In this thread: https://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=114128 someone mentioned they replaced the "audio control unit" in the car. Is there another module in the car that is tied to the stereo outside of the amp? I am taking my car in for service tomorrow and will flag this along with scheduled stuff so see if they can resolve it.

Ill bring it back from the dead. Had, what i think is being described here, on mt '18 M2 w/HK system.
I found it was coming from the rear DS deck speaker. Even with the car off, audio off, locked (killing the audio when still on) it would hum. Even would change pitch depending on what else I was using in the car, such as lights, buttons and what not. I am also having the issue where audio will cut out (skip) when I hit bumps. Im reading its most likely an issue with the amp. I removed the speaker to get the hissing/humming to stop. Audio will still skip out when I hit bumps |
